I have been a car dealer since I was 21 yrs old. For many years I sold only to local people who came to my dealership. In 2001, eBay created eBay Motors. I forced myself to learn how to create effective eBay ads so that I could sell my cars to customers all over the world.

1) I assembled a quality team to help me. We created an eBay user name that was short and easy to remember, USCREDIT.

2) We created ads that have yellow border with bold black letters; catches attention.

3) What does a customer want before he sends us $10,000 to pay for something he had never seen in person. So we provide 30+ photos of the car, all around including the engine, interior, trunk, books and manuals.

4) We include a photo of the fair market appraisal from Kelley Blue Book.

5) Mail order to be successful has to provide a feeling of confidence in the seller's product, so we provide a Money Back Guarantee.

6) We provide a complimentary CARFAX report of the history of the car.

7) We make sure that my feedback is 100% positive. (Congress of the United States has a 9% positive feedback.) Testimonials from our customers are included.

8) We created a toll free phone number, 1-800-413-8881 and we make sure that requests for information are answered in a timely manner.

9) Customers on eBay want to buy at wholesale so we advertise that we sell at wholesale to the public. We have to buy below the average wholesale prices so that we can resell at wholesale to the public for a profit.

10) We added additional Internet exposure for our inventory by offering our products on Yahoo.com, AOL.com, CARFAX.com, Cars.com, Carsforsale.com and many other sites.

11) Our company accepts all major credit cards as payment.

12) We assist in door to door delivery of the product.

13) We also take consignments from other dealerships.

14) We now have customers in England, Germany, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and all the states in USA. Many of those customers have bought three or more times from us as repeat customers.

You can sell almost anything on eBay. First you just have get your feet wet by listing your first item. Just do it.

Wow, John if I were selling cars I'd be ecstatic to find this wealth of information you've shared. With a little tweaking I'm sure your 14 point plan may be adjusted for a number of industries. Thank you again for sharing John.

Thanks John. You are absolutely right. I love the 14 steps here. I have some work to do. Putting a website is one that I'm working on. Doing some eBooks with wonderful book cover images to put on the site and catchy titles. Doing some other internet marketing with affiliates would work too. My brain is storming with ideas. Thanks again dear. Please feel free to contact me any time. Phone, email, Instant messaging.

Hi Brigett: I think eBooks are even better than selling cars on eBay. You don't even have to be an author to do it. You can get other people to write the artilces that you turn into eBooks. At my Young Entrepreneurs of Sarasota support group we covered this topic. One of your members is quite adept at creating eBooks and selling them on eBay. He says he is making several thousand dollars a week doing it. He creates really great titles. More later if you wish. John

Great, great, great blog! I love the way you enumerated how you became a successful eBay seller. And even though my main product will be intangible, you've given me some great hints for marketing.

Thank you, John.

To your continued success,
