In your opinion, should a person use a banner or link as part of their signature when leaving a message on another's profile page, particularly if the message itself did not have to do with a biz opp?

Which signature would you prefer a person use:

1. Have a GREAT day,
Warren

2. Have a GREAT day,
Warren

3. Have a GREAT day,

I think a link is the acceptable norm in a business networking site or forum. Banners will usually cause your message to be ignored and create issues with the site administrators.

The best practice is to link to somthing that is already on the site within the body of the message. I have seen several members, through trial and error, realize it is best to promote their sta.rtup.biz blogs and groups within the site.

The link on a signature may get you a small credit with the search engines at the end of the day, but it will get very few clicks.

The way I see it is that people who join a group like this are doing so because they either have an opportunity or product to promote ... or they are looking for an opportunity for a business to get into. With that in mind, banners and other form of advertising are expected.

With that said, if you want to be successful, you have to contribute value or people will just ignore you. Place a banner on my page, I'll delete it. Write a meaningful email and gently include a promotion in the signature area, that's just fine.

Did I contribute value in this comment? If so, please take a moment and visit my website. I don't sell anything right now (other than a few affiliate links). If you want to grow your internet marketing business, my articles may be helpful to you.

I think it is a question of the placer and the placee. I would only place banners if allowed. I've had a couple of situations where people placed banners on my sites with out permission, I did not fly off the handle or anything but I was a little disappointed. Yet there are some that would would not look at the situation a second time. It is a acceptable norm for some as SUP.biz,COO pointed out. So once again I say "It depends on the Placer and Placee"

It does get a little annoying when people just leave comments about their company, never ask any questions, etc on my personal profile page. However, I'm okay with banner ads, but much prefer links under the signatures. That way, if I truly am interested in another person's business, then I'll click on their website link. If I think they're annoying, I'll pass it on by. We are all just trying to make a living, no? Some may just be a little more successful than others!

That's a sticky one...if you do it in "good taste", I personally don't see anything wrong with it. If your signature line is a running commentary on how great you and your business is - that's another thing entirely.

A link to your business is becoming a way of life, if people don't like it, they need to just ignore it because even kids have websites now! ;->

But that's just my opinion...I could be wrong.

I think a link should be enough- the banners are so large that it takes a while to scroll down. The banners are very nice though. Not a biggie :)

Since we can easily click on the name of the advertiser, we will get a chance to view all of their services if applicable.

It is my opinion that when in Rome do as the Roman's. These banners have created monguls such University of Phoenix. The banners should be utilized only if they are appropriate with the site content.
