How to present your business...

That sounds silly doesn't it? Why would I have to learn how to present my business opportunity to others? I just sign up and start posting right?

It would seem on the surface to be that easy, but I see a lot of people have a real hard time...

Over time social networks create a very tight community. Everyone learns the rules and looks out for each other...

That's the first thing... Read the rules. Different social networks approach how you display links differently or even what you can talk about...

The other thing is don't come in gang busters!! Don't try to prove yourself and get to excited about showing everyone your knowledge etc....

Get to know the community first. Hang out for a while. Introduce yourself politely... Usually there is a separate area set aside for intros... And then start browsing.

Get to know the other members... Remember a lot of these people have known each other for a while. They may even be doing business behind the scenes...

Once you have a feel for it, start helping out.

Helping out... If you have any knowledge to contribute, provide it... Help people with things you know about.

Learn... Read... Learn... Read some more... Ask questions...

Then let it rip if you want to.

The bottom line is very few people can go crazy right off the bat... There is an exception here or there, but usually the community wants to see you contribute for a while before you get bold. They need to get to know you.

Definitely don't provide a sales pitch in your first posts... You will getting flaming posts and anger the community. Everyone will see it as spam.

It's just like building any relationship. Take it easy at first until you get to know each other.

Social networks are powerful things. Don't abuse that power. And don't ruin your reputation...

Good day to you,

You are very right. I'm very new to all this stuff. I'm just now learning that I actually have a site that I CAN LEAD PEOPLE TO. Until now I've only been joining others sites and groups.

I must tell you sincerely, this site is one of the most different ones I've joined.
From a person who 'JUST DON'T KNOW HOW THINGS GO OUT-HERE, IN INTERNET LAND', your site is last on my list, mainly because your site is a bit MORE Business, than the others.

I do appreciate your concerns.

Love you MUCH,

eve

When it comes to the protection of your site, I do appreciate your concerns. But to tell you the truth, I'm in a lot of different businesses, but I'm really not over in any of these sites trying to sell anything but ME as a friend. So I'm wondering why so much correction.

Excellent thoughts worth remembering!

Give quality information, and login to the network to respond to comments and messages once a day.

Sup.biz is right on the money with this. You share great content and people will take time to read it. After doing so they usually will post a comment or message you with questions or appreciation. When you follow back right away you have a great chance of furthering that relationship along. Unfortunately that takes time and work. But those who understand an online business takes work to make it succeed this strategy will work very nicely for you.

Matt, you are absolutely right there. I don't know how many people on social networks leave me a "comment" that has nothing in it but their link to their business. Not a word about my suggestions or comments.

I hope many people read and heed this timely advice.

I just read “How to Avoid Being Called A Spammer On A Social Network”
Posted by Matt LaClear on August 30, 2008 at 12:15am in General Business & Management .
It really opened my eyes. When you are new to this business you may get over-enthusiastic, or even overwhelmed by the prospect of reaching millions with one click of the mouse. As he quite rightly hinted. You must be respectful of the establishment,
I know that when I first joined I was wide eyed pumped up when I saw the membership.
If I was guilty of the things Matt talked about, I take this opportunity to apologize to the entire membership. May I really get to know you all.

Matt,

That's great advice and easy to apply! Most people like to get a friendly hand shake before being vomited all over with a sales pitch, business idea of the century etc.
Thanks,

Matt,

Good read! Terrific advice.

Now and then, if you've got the time, it's fun to get to know a friend you don't know very well. Surprise him or her with a message. With a positive word or two, you can form acquaintances, possibly relationships, even true friendships.

Thanks for the tips.
