How to present your business...

That sounds silly doesn't it? Why would I have to learn how to present my business opportunity to others? I just sign up and start posting right?

It would seem on the surface to be that easy, but I see a lot of people have a real hard time...

Over time social networks create a very tight community. Everyone learns the rules and looks out for each other...

That's the first thing... Read the rules. Different social networks approach how you display links differently or even what you can talk about...

The other thing is don't come in gang busters!! Don't try to prove yourself and get to excited about showing everyone your knowledge etc....

Get to know the community first. Hang out for a while. Introduce yourself politely... Usually there is a separate area set aside for intros... And then start browsing.

Get to know the other members... Remember a lot of these people have known each other for a while. They may even be doing business behind the scenes...

Once you have a feel for it, start helping out.

Helping out... If you have any knowledge to contribute, provide it... Help people with things you know about.

Learn... Read... Learn... Read some more... Ask questions...

Then let it rip if you want to.

The bottom line is very few people can go crazy right off the bat... There is an exception here or there, but usually the community wants to see you contribute for a while before you get bold. They need to get to know you.

Definitely don't provide a sales pitch in your first posts... You will getting flaming posts and anger the community. Everyone will see it as spam.

It's just like building any relationship. Take it easy at first until you get to know each other.

Social networks are powerful things. Don't abuse that power. And don't ruin your reputation...

Hi Matt,

Good post, I do agree with most of what you are saying until the let it rip part. Not sure what you mean by let it rip, I hope that you didn't mean if you are in a community for a while and have reached the stage that you are comfortable Just start spamming. Sorry I have to disagree with that one. But that is ok we can all voice our opinions.

Just by showing interest in others and what they do gives you the upper hand, Show people that you care who they are and what they do and you will never have to use push, pull or tow tactics again. You will never have to spam again, people will be approaching you for information on your project.

I had never been successful at all until I put the projects aside and showed interest in others.

Don't know who you are or if this will even get read by anyone, But Matt is on the right track for sure.
Thanks

For a newbie to this it was very helpful.

You must have been doing this for a while.
Again thanks,

THAT WILL HELP SO MUCH WITH WHAT I DO

All good advice but for newbies here the sudden influx of promotional comments with links as soon as you join can easily lead them to believe that's an acceptable practice before they've even had a chance to explore and find out how things work.

Hi Mat!

Great post man! It's amazing how simple it is but so many still don't get it. All we can do, is continue to educate.

Much Success & Happy Holidays,

That is GREAT information! I see it all too often and it really is a pet peeve of mine to see people just join a great site like this and then just SPAM the heck out of it. I always tell people to meet people on these sites just as you would face to face. You would not walk up to a potential friend and just start blasting them with your business and all that...well I say that even though I think some of you would do that...LOL but if you do you will fail then too...just get to know people. Be genuine and build relationships. Just because it is online does not mean it is not still personal!!!

Good points. These should be part of signing up. I have already broke most of these rules. How does one make amends. Good piece. Thnx.
