How to present your business...

That sounds silly doesn't it? Why would I have to learn how to present my business opportunity to others? I just sign up and start posting right?

It would seem on the surface to be that easy, but I see a lot of people have a real hard time...

Over time social networks create a very tight community. Everyone learns the rules and looks out for each other...

That's the first thing... Read the rules. Different social networks approach how you display links differently or even what you can talk about...

The other thing is don't come in gang busters!! Don't try to prove yourself and get to excited about showing everyone your knowledge etc....

Get to know the community first. Hang out for a while. Introduce yourself politely... Usually there is a separate area set aside for intros... And then start browsing.

Get to know the other members... Remember a lot of these people have known each other for a while. They may even be doing business behind the scenes...

Once you have a feel for it, start helping out.

Helping out... If you have any knowledge to contribute, provide it... Help people with things you know about.

Learn... Read... Learn... Read some more... Ask questions...

Then let it rip if you want to.

The bottom line is very few people can go crazy right off the bat... There is an exception here or there, but usually the community wants to see you contribute for a while before you get bold. They need to get to know you.

Definitely don't provide a sales pitch in your first posts... You will getting flaming posts and anger the community. Everyone will see it as spam.

It's just like building any relationship. Take it easy at first until you get to know each other.

Social networks are powerful things. Don't abuse that power. And don't ruin your reputation...

Ha Barbara! We all have made the same mistake when first staring out. It's a lesson that seems to take a bit to learn unfortunately.

.
Thanks for that Matt, (poet)

Good advice indeed, we all have a tendancy to jump straight in,
especially the newbies, - it all a question of balance I guess.

Stay away from hype at all cost. Connect with people on a human level. Share info, tips, opinions just as you would if meeting someone new in person. Never beat anyone over the head with your Business Op. Too many make this mistake and ruin it for the good ones. That kind of conduct will cheapen even the most legit of opportunities. So many entrepreneurs are pitching so many things it's impossible to keep track and morover know who is for real and who's a total scambag. If you brand yourself and a knowledgeable leader people will be attracted to what you have to say and what you could possibly offer them of value. Then you have a great opportunity to engage an interested person in a conversation about your Business. You'll have a much higher chance of recruiting a new partner in success that way. Relax and have fun! G

Matt,

You are 100% correct in how to approach our network. I'm ranked in the TOP 20 and it has been a slow process in connecting with people. I haven't jumped on spamming people because that isn't our site goal. My approach has been to welcome as many people as possible and then I leave them a tip on how to make their profile page colorful. I've connected with some key people and I believe that's the nature of our site. Now...you have placed a glass, brick and wooden ceiling so I won't be with you any time soon at the TOP! SMILE - Keep up the great work and I like how you reach out to help others.

Good Luck!

Matt,

This is such great advice! So many folks start spamming right out of the gate without building any type of relationship. How annoying is that!!!

Totally agree on this Matt. Folks are here to see if others are interested in their business proposals and offer, yes. But jumping the gun too soon, spells disaster and leaves an unpleasant trail.

Remember the fundamentals of business: People do business with those they like, trust and respect. So give people a chance to know you and they will gravitate to you as they see fit and on their own. You only need to spark some curiosity every now and again. That's it. Don't fill up people's pages with sales pitches! It can hurt you in the short and long run!

Hi Nadira,
What type of business are you in? I am just starting out and interested in hearing about peoples success stories. Hope to hear from and others as well. God bless,
