I've posted this on my blog a while ago. Seems like a popular post. Enjoy.

It's a checklist I go through everyday when I blog.

Checklist For Blogging

1. Write two blogs posts if possible per day. One for today’s content, and one for later on incase I have writer’s block, I’m too busy or I don’t feel like it. Always plan ahead so that your blog is updated daily.

2. Re-read everything after writing your blog. There'll always be the occasional mistake but keep these to a minimum. That's why I write ahead of my schedule. For any free time you have, re-read some of the blogs you’ve written ahead of schedule for any spelling or grammar mistakes.

3. Read websites such as Technorati, Sphinn or Digg. Get ideas on what to write about and put these ideas on your notepad. If a topic is hot, plan to write about it in the near future.

4. Advertise your post. After you finished posting, spend time to advertise that post. Go to social sites and talk to people, mention it on forums, email your list and comment on other people’s blogs.

5. Make sure you commented on someone’s blog today. This drives targeted traffic to your blog and also builds relationships with your other peers.

6. Have you put any anchor text on your postings? Make sure you have at least one. Maybe pointing to your internal pages or to other blogs. Don’t worry about giving links to other quality blogs.

7. See if you can fit a joke into your post. No one likes reading boring crap. Fitting a joke in your post will raise interest.

8. Have you tagged your posts? Make sure you enter 2-3 keyword phrases for the tags. Places like Technorati will look at these tags to make their judgement on relevancy to topics.

9. Check the search engines to see if your post is indexed. If a particular has appeared to rank very well in the search engines find out why. Maybe make additional posts on the same subject and keywords.

10. Look at your post. Does the appearance look boring? If so add some pictures to it. Or break it into smaller paragraphs. Add some sub heading to it. No one likes to read a blog like a novel on the internet.

Nice post. I think #10 is the most neglected. There are alot of blogs out there that do not even have one picture other than the logo.

Absolutely!...Thanks for the reference,
I went to the link that you provided and it was powerfully informative, also. Now I believe that I can blog and do it the "right" way.

Great article and fabulous tips! I agree that #10 may be the most neglected.

I would add this technique to your list: "create a place on your blog where you can feature your BEST posts (like this one). You can feature these on a page or in a sidebar widget on your blog.

In addition to providing new readers to your blog a quick and easy way to 'get up to speed" it's a great "time management" trick for the blog owner.

When you've got just such a listing of posts, you can go and grab a URL quickly and easily! (Yeah for quick and easy!)

For example, here's a post I wrote on whether a blog is the best marketing tool for your business.

Number 10 gets forgotten quite a bit.

Hello with a Second Motion.
I certainly do not like reading blogs that resemble a page out of a textbook either.
In fact, I enjoy adding images to my comments to make them more interesting also. They are personalized to something that I've read in the members' bio.

Greetings ...with Applause and Gratitude!
I have been resisting blogging, despite knowing and promoting all of its virtues.
This post gave me the ammunition to shoot and hit the bulls-eye.
Appreciation for the Inspiration and Guidance.

Hi Alan,

This is a really neat article, thanks for sharing the info. I am a bit hit and miss with my blogging I'm ashamed to say, never give it consistent enough time so your article really will be useful for me to help get me on track.
Cheers,
Debs

I hear all this lip service That everyone wants to have people come to their business and be customers or be distributors but I see little or nor action. I have used now 4 different people services from the group without even a visit to my websites.
I am beginning to feel like the social network sites even the ones fro business are just alot on lips service and no action. I offer free samples for a small shipping fee and not one have come from this site. Yet I hear we all are here to support each other. ( but it I will support you if YOU go first and I see how much you spend with me then I will spend the same with you.) This is where the LAWS of the universe start to fall down. Read "the Go Giver" and find out what it is really all about.
