Barack Hussein Obama
The Forty-Fourth President of the United States of America

It was surreal. It caught me off guard. If my friends and family are indication, it caught most of us off guard.

That the moment was historic, goes without saying.

Right before the election was called and it looked like it was going our way, I was gripped with a feeling of disbelief. All I could say to myself (over and over) was "We're going to have a black president". Like I was trying to get it to sink in.

Sure, the process had gone on forever. Sure President-elect Obama is MORE than qualified. Sure all circumstances appeared to be in his favor. But did any of us REALLY think that this country was ready to be led by an African American?

All I have to say is that today, I am PROUD to be an American. Very proud, indeed.

Not because we've elected a leader that is more than worthy of the highest office in our country, who just happens to be African American. Not because we've elected a leader that has the uncanny ability to bring all kinds of people together and has already changed the world's view of our country. Not even because he brings to the office of the presidency, hope--a hope that has been missing in our country for too long.

The election of Barack Obama means just what this country means to everyone. Infinite possibility.

What does it mean to you?

Ginger, I am still pinching myself. I have been crying, singing, laughing, dancing and praising God for this great time in our history. Words cannot express how deeply happy and proud I am. This video of a CBS interview with Maya Angelou expresses it best. I am very proud to be an American. God bless President Elect Barack Obama, his family, our great America and our world.

Blessings,
Krystara

Thank you for sharing this video with Maya Angelou. She is truly a great woman and so eloquent and inspirational in her speech. I was truly blessed to have actually been in the presence of her greatness some years ago and it has always stuck with me. She is a living African- American icon.

It is a beautiful day. A day that I never thought I would live to see. Even while the election was going on I dared not hope. But I did make sure my vote counted. When it was over I laughed, I cried, and I was proud of this country. The citizens saw beyond race to the man. I have lived through many defining events. I was a child when President Kennedy was assassinated that had a profound effect on this country. I was a teen when Martin Luther King was marching in Washington another great moment.

Now I have been honored to live to see another defining moment when Barack Obama elected as President of the United States.

God has Blessed America.

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

Ginger:

I truly understand your feeling of disbelief. At the beginning of the night when the numbers weren't going the way I wanted them to, I was feeling a sense of sadness not just for me but for our country. I was just praying that race wouldn't cloud the thinking process of the voters and the most qualified candidate would prevail by the end of the night.

I stayed glue to www.7online.com throughout the evening keeping a watchful eye on the changing numbers while cautiously clinging to hope that America was going to show the world that we are truly ready for the change needed to bring us back from the brink of destruction. I knew deep within my heart that we couldn't afford another 4 years of the failed politics that the past 8 years has rained upon us.

As the numbers began moving in favor of positive change for this country, I was still sitting in utter disbelief because I was trying to grasp the enormous possibility of what was about to take place within my lifetime. At around 11:00pm I heard the newscaster say the words, "Channel 7 is Ready to Project that Barack Obama is the Winner of this Presidential Race!" I sat there not believing what I just heard, but when John McClain came on the air waves approximately 15 minutes later to graciously concede the race to Obama, that is when I was finally able to breathe a sign of relief and finally realized that yes, America has spoken loud and clear that we are ready for a change and that change was in the form of a eloquent, intelligent, well-spoken African-American male.

I don't know about anyone else, but I heard the loud roar of my hard fighting dead ancestors who clearly paved the way for this day, many with a premature harsh death as they joyously celebrated in their final resting places. As I watched the large joyous crowds composed of all nationalities and races around the country, I remembered the words of Martin Luther King predicting that with all of our struggles and hardships, we would be reaching that Promised Land.

Now it is time for us to unite as a people and work together to bring America back to what our forefathers wanted this country to be. We have elected the right leader poised to take over the reins come January 20, 2009, but he will need all of our help.

God truly blessed America, Tuesday, November 4th, 2008!!! Let's rejoice in this blessing and roll up our sleeves and begin the healing process.

Ginger;

I always felt that he was going to win anyway, but when it actually happened and the numbers showed to prove it....I couldn't speak for almost two minutes. I am still praising God and crying! I am fifty-eight years old and I have seen many things, and yes, it is time for a change in more ways than one. President Barack H. Obama...that just sounds right! He is going to need our prayers more than ever now!

Have a blessed, safe, and powerful day in the Lord!

Hey Ginger! How are you?? I will be in touch! I have you in mind and have to take some time for our networking plan.

I too like Krystara have to pinch myself regularly! ...and by the way Krystara, thankyou soooo much for that video of Maya Angelou. I am so proud of Barack and of America and of Black Americans and I am so happy for us. I am excited with the new confidence that if we have faith, believe that here in America we have arrived at a time when yes, we can, do anything.

I am still in shock and disbelief. That eve I stood, watching and staring at Barack and asking myself could this really be???

I am truly happy for America that they have grown up, in this sense but more than that I send out a message to Black America, let's now come together and lets take this for all it's worth. Let's support President Obama, let's support each other, let's prove worthy and lets do for our families and peoples what we have deserved for sooo long. Bring unlimited success and hapiness to all black folks that will listen and can believe. Ride the wave!

The election of Barack Obama was more than a dream, it was a symbol of healing which had finally taken place. I felt no more like a hyphenated American, but one who was black and whole. I cried because of the memories of growing up in a segregated south; being called the "n" word on my way to get an ice cream cone; seeing cotton for the first time and imagining my great-grandparents with backs bent dragging a heavy sack; watching the scowls on the faces of parents watching me lift my kindergarten daughter onto the bus to take her across town...I wept for the pain of the past. And I wept for the greatness of the present, and for the joy and excitement of the future; for the possibilities that could now come to any young person who wanted to work hard and achieve their goals. I wept for Barack knowing how heavy his heart must have been at the death of his beloved grandmother in the midst of the pride and accomplishment. My emotions were almost unbearable. I thank the citizens of America, and I thank God for allowing me to live long enough to see the day. It was indeed a beautiful day! Paris.
