I have a wonderful business that distributes fresh baked, sugar-free and all-natural cakes, cookies, pies, muffins and other healthy goodies to business and social groups personally to their office or event. We recently partnered with the JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION on a fund-raising project (see www.sfoholidays.com). We want to start cold calling businesses throughout our marketing area to let them know about our products, services and our partnership with the JDRF. I would like your help on a very important question...How should we approach the potential customer in a cold-call? Should we begin with our partnership program or the products and services we offer business and social groups? What opener would get YOU to come to the phone and talk to us?

Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Have A Great Day Of Business,

Gary Scaife...

To a degree, what you are offering will go bad after a day or so. Thus, it's in your interest to get it out there free of charge anyway. Give out gift baskets with informational tags and use that as an excuse to get your foot in the door, give your prospects a taste of what you can do, and then emphasize the program. Now this is common practice in most medical offices. Your association, and perhaps talking with some local Dieticians and Nutrition providers could really open some doors for you. In the medical offices, in person is the standard and I'd advise you to pay special attention to their pharma- rep protocols. Check into primary care offices and look up endocrinologist, pediatric, and maybe even geriatric (a lot of elderly know the troubles of diabetes and might like to share healthy treats with their grandkids). However, it might not hurt to just call and let them know you'd like to bring them a gift basket- ask if that is O.K. and how many. If in person, and this could be any type of setting, have a quick visual menu card and see if you can be allowed to go around and take some quick orders- that way they can see the selection and then taste it. Maybe leave the cards with a contact number to order and offer one free. Also, maybe set up a very pleasant counter display and see if people will let you set it up in their offices.

Best,

Anthony
