I just read an INCREDIBLE article in the NY TIMES about people allowing companies to pay them to use their BODIES as a BILLBOARD. I was speechless. (rare) In some regards, it's better than being a human guinea pig for pharmaceuticals. But nonetheless, I'd like to hear from you.
Would you let advertisers use your BODY as a BILLBOARD to ADVERTISE?
I prefer the image of "Bill's Suntan Lotion" on a man with a barrel chest. Although I imagine that wouldn't last long either....being that he'd probably get tanned over the body henna billboard and all.
you always have interesting posts. Thanks. There's no real place for it in contemporary society...right now. I think it will become much more mainstream. The problem is the cheap attempt by advertisers to penetrate markets. You take that underlying intent out of it, and then I think you've got something hot.
It's all about branding and associating with brands. I happen to dig Oakley, Nike, Adidas etc. I like wearing the clothing and showing the brand, but primarily because of the cultural inference. Those companies have tailored brand images for people to wear and own...relate to and want to express. With the emergence of social connectivity, for instance, people are actually having more of a challenge distinguishing themselves. Plus, with that interaction, social boundaries are falling and people are more inclined to express themselves in creative ways.
Notice a lot of cars with decals lately. mostly, these advertisements refer to their own proprietary ventures and I think they're incentivising it as a tax write off too. Me personally, my brand is intimately intertwined with who I am and what i am doing. So promoting that on my body is kind of an entertaining prospect. The fact remains, it's only common sense, human billboards are more likely to be associated with cheap advertisement ideas etc for now.
