Leaving MDAnderson to go home

---------------------------------------------------------------

July 9th

After getting diagnosed yesterday at MDAnderson, I decided I was not going to hide the fact. I am really scared for my life and for the life of my baby. At the same time, I can not help but to worry how people will look at me with only one breast. They are also going to have to remove a large portion of my back. The back skin and the back muscle will be used to cover the hole where my left breast and chest muscle will have used to have been.

The good news for everyone reading this is that I should be back from the hospital by Monday and able to work from my computer out of my bed. I am a strong willed woman and I plan to heal quickly. The other partners of the company met last night and decided to donate a portion of all the profits to breast cancer research. I cried when I saw that they had placed the pink ribbon on the logo today.

My twitter account, that was initially used for updating on Sta.rtUp.biz, is also going to be used for updates on my battle, which I will win. Please take a moment to sign up to follow me on Twitter and tell your friends about it. I would like to share my story every step of the way.

MDAdnerson has informed me that I will be the 6th pregnant woman in medical history to have a mastectomy. They also told me that there has been less than 100 documented cases of pregnant women with cancer since they started tracking in 1991. I hope that by getting my story out, that I will be able to connect with some of the other 98 or so women that have gone through what I am going through now. This is the only way that I will find answers because the doctors say they can give no answers with so few statistics.

So please share this post with everyone you know. Hopefully, the power of business networking can lead to me finding answers and spreading awareness at the same time. Little did I know that a few weeks ago while watching how Twitter was changing the way we see Iran, that I would be using it to find answers and support in the fight of my life.

My surgery is at 6am Friday morning. I should be able to give a twitter update in the evening or dictate it to a family member to tweet it for me. I want to thank everyone for taking the time to read this and for forwarding this message on to all of your contacts.

Natalie,

My mother is a survivor of breast cancer and so far she has been cancer free for a few years after she had her radical mastectomy. When she was first diagnosed I forget how many years ago she needed a lymphectomy with radiation treatment on the side where they found the cancerous tumour. But some years later the cancer showed up again so a radical mastectomy was performed w/ chemo. So far she has been cancer free for number of years, sorry again I don't remember all the timing of this, but recently a marker for cancer showed up in her yearly testing. They did a bone scan last week and she was clean. They are going to do an MRI next week and we all hope that she is shown to be cancer free. I know from my mother that this situation can be a great trial. As a devout Christian I can only offer up my prayers that the Lord will see you through this huge trial for you and your family. My mom is a fairly private person so I don't know if you would be open to communicate but I will forward your story to her.

Blessings,
Kerry Prochaska

Hi Natalie,

I only saw your Ecademy email asking me to check out your free life membership to Sup.Biz clicked on your twitter link to see your page & quite surprised to see the hospital picture. I must say that the picture on twitter page will move a lot of people. Very sorry for the pains you must going through but you are indeed a surviver but am sure God has not finished with you yet on this earth. He gave you that beautiful angel & there is a purpose for that. I will continue to offer prayers for you to go through this recuperating journey which starts from today.

A word of support for you: My late grand mother had her breast removed in early 70's but she lived to the age of 92 years before she died & not certainly as result of the her cancer which was noticed on time before her breast was removed like yours so you have every reason to thank God but i have to ask you for one favour. You must now find out the types of food you need to be eating from now. I say this because most food we eat in the western world are all processed & canned. My Grand mother was in Africa & it's all about organic food. No processed food, no preservative & no add on but straight from the farm.

I will share your story through my twitter update & ask people to follow you too

Take Care & God Bless

Toni

Please go to www.knowthecause.com the most tragic part of this story is that it could be prevented or reversed. Surgery/radiation is the last choice anyone should choose

Dear Natalie,

My wife is a 6 yr - breast cancer survivor (she too, had a latissimus flap breast reconstruction of one breast) and my 9 year old son is a brain tumor survivor for 1 1/2 years now, so I know from the "caregiver's point of view" what you are going through. While it is not exactly an easy road, it is quite doable with the right attitude and good doctor care. The key is doing your exercises religiously and eating healthy. As much as I've learned to not like dealing with "some" doctors, follow their advice, as they really do have your best interests in mind.

I will follow your progress with great interest and give you as much support as possible through a medium such as this one. Of course, you will also be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Natalie,

While it is hard for me to give you advice or even a word from someone that has gone through what you are about to do. I feel the urge to let you in on a little advice.

Whatever you do, however hard you feel things are...YOU need to be upbeat and positive for you and your baby. As you say future cancer survivor and mom! That is going to be the end result for you to be cancer free and holding your baby in your arms. Just imagine that.

Every morning be excited about what the days brings. In the beginning it will rid you of something that you and your body do not want, so that is something to be thankful for. Then for every day you are getting closer to your delivery, boy do you have a lot to be thankful for!!

Every night, think of ALL the GOOD things that happened during that day! Only good things!!! Look forward to what the next day will bring. Celebrate yours and your babies life every day!
All my best wishes and thoughts. Petra

Hi Natalie,

I'm new here and just read your post. My mom was recently diagnosed with stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer and is currently going through chemo (no talk of surgery yet). She just left MD Anderson yesterday for her 6-wk checkup and all is going well. The cancer seems to have shrunk and by centimeters instead of millimeters. Her breast was sore for months. No one could diagnose it. She, too, was on antibiotics for an infection but for a whole month. Then the doc said as far as he was concerned she was better. Only after a specific request for a biopsy did they find it. Very scary....we're told to feel for lumps and get our mammograms. When nothing shows up, there's just no answer. So, I'm kind of on a mission to spread the word about IBC. Ladies, look for signs of your skin looking like an orange peel. Watch out for that red, painful inflammation. And most importantly, trust your instincts. If someone's telling you you're fine and you don't agree, see someone else. It could be nothing but it also could save your life.

I wanted to write you so badly I didn't even read any further. So I don't know when your baby is/was due or if you've given an update. Regardless, ALL my best to you and your little one.

Andrea Dennis
