Leaving MDAnderson to go home

---------------------------------------------------------------

July 9th

After getting diagnosed yesterday at MDAnderson, I decided I was not going to hide the fact. I am really scared for my life and for the life of my baby. At the same time, I can not help but to worry how people will look at me with only one breast. They are also going to have to remove a large portion of my back. The back skin and the back muscle will be used to cover the hole where my left breast and chest muscle will have used to have been.

The good news for everyone reading this is that I should be back from the hospital by Monday and able to work from my computer out of my bed. I am a strong willed woman and I plan to heal quickly. The other partners of the company met last night and decided to donate a portion of all the profits to breast cancer research. I cried when I saw that they had placed the pink ribbon on the logo today.

My twitter account, that was initially used for updating on Sta.rtUp.biz, is also going to be used for updates on my battle, which I will win. Please take a moment to sign up to follow me on Twitter and tell your friends about it. I would like to share my story every step of the way.

MDAdnerson has informed me that I will be the 6th pregnant woman in medical history to have a mastectomy. They also told me that there has been less than 100 documented cases of pregnant women with cancer since they started tracking in 1991. I hope that by getting my story out, that I will be able to connect with some of the other 98 or so women that have gone through what I am going through now. This is the only way that I will find answers because the doctors say they can give no answers with so few statistics.

So please share this post with everyone you know. Hopefully, the power of business networking can lead to me finding answers and spreading awareness at the same time. Little did I know that a few weeks ago while watching how Twitter was changing the way we see Iran, that I would be using it to find answers and support in the fight of my life.

My surgery is at 6am Friday morning. I should be able to give a twitter update in the evening or dictate it to a family member to tweet it for me. I want to thank everyone for taking the time to read this and for forwarding this message on to all of your contacts.

Hi Natalie,
If you have received anti-biotics, you need to start a good pro-biotic soon as anti-biotics kill the good flora in your intestines and that is where your health starts in your body. Probiotics are what does the digestion of your food and also keeps the bad bacteria and fungus from becoming over productive and cause yeast infections and many other problems for a pregnant woman.
If you go to my blog you can read a lot about cancer and many other health related subjects.
I am a 13 year cancer survivor and I have done a lot of research on this matter.

There are lots of reasons for so much cancer now-days, and most of it is from what we consume daily and what is available in the markets for use. Most of it is so contaminated with chemical additives that we are not able to keep our bodies healthy enough to live without sickness and disease, unless we make healthy choices, and eat only what Mother nature has provided for us so we can stay healthy.

I hope you have a healthy baby and a happy life after this trauma you have just gone through.

"For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds,
and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Matthew 7:8

To posses God's wisdom is among the greatest needs we have.
God's wisdom helps us to make prudent choices throughout our Christian lives.......
The Bible provides many commands and principles for godly living, but it is not an exhustive manual of methods and rules for every conceivable situation....... It would keep us from relying directly on God. He wants us to be in his Word daily so that we can know his principles for righteous living and can pray wisely for guidance when we have difficult decisions.

Natalie,

I am following you on Twitter now.

My daughter's best friend was diagnosed with uterine cancer when 6 months pregnant. The tumors were small (they found them during the ultrasound) and she was able to go full term. The tumors were removed when she gave birth, but it was scary.

I am sorry you have had to go through the mastectomy when doctors are getting so very close to alternatives to surgery. I write a blog on cancer research and keep up on developments in the field. There are procedures coming out of the labs which will help many avoid having to go through what you did.

I went through a double mastectomy and follow-up activities with a wonderful lady friend a few years back. It was very hard on her although she is a strong lady. Unfortunately, as a result of the chemotherapy she has developed heart problems. My mother wasn't so lucky. She died of tissue damage done by chemotherapy after a double mastectomy. Take care when a doctor says "chemotherapy for insurance against recurrence."

I hope you have no further problems and give birth to a healthy, happy baby.

Stan

I can hardly believe what I'm reading! You're a strong woman, as you say, and determined, so your recovery is sure.

In the meantime, know that you're in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for being strong enough to share your experience with us. I'm going to make sure all of my checkups are up to date - I've been far too lax. Thanks for the reminder of how important it is to be vigilant!

Andrea
