Hey! I am new to this site and would REALLY appreciate your HONEST opinion on this! I have two son's in this band The Wayves. The youngest one has such a passion for music it scares me. when Art was about five he told me he wanted to play the guitar. I didn't think much about it until he was 12 and asked again to play. My mom bought a cheap guitar at a pawn shop and he has been obsessed since. Art plays about four hours a day, every day. UGH... He has over 30 originals written and believe it or not, has won some competitions. I just don't know how he really sizes up, I am his mom! I would greatly appreciate you having a listen to a few originals on www.myspace.com/thewayves
His idol is John Mayer . Thank you sooooooooo much!!!!!!!
Hello Doris,
When I was growing up I sang all the time. My Dad (he is deceased now) would sing with me. He had a marvelous voice. He encouraged me as I believe he thought I did as well. It was a wonderful connection that we shared. The best part, was that he encouraged me to sing. It was never a bad thing to sing...it was music...it was creative...it was freeing! As I grew into a young woman...the singing never left me. Then one day I tried out for a show band...tucked into the Catskills. Guess what? I had to learn 70 songs/harmony parts as well in 2 weeks! Guess what? I got the job as the singer in an eight piece orchestra and I loved every minute of it! I still miss it terribly...the singing that is! I will sing again for sure! Your son DOES have talent!
If my parents supressed my creative efforts of trying to make a liveing doing what I love? Oh...I would certainly have turned out differently. My parents gave me the freedom to choose. More than anything else in those decisive years that I am grateful for...it is that trust and freedom that my parents gave me wrapped up in the arms of encouragement my friend. Allow your children to create!
Regards,
Kjelene
