My ultimate dream is to have my own massage parlor. I also want to sell soaps and lotions, things that are related. Would it be too much to try and sell jewelry or other, non-related things? Is there a thing as too much?
My dream is far from now; I'm still in school, not to mention dirt-broke. Heh.
Hi Kiera,
Actually I have gone to a massage parlor where I live and this is what they have. IT's in an old home that was refurnished, etc. All the massage rooms are upstairs. On the first floor is the nail solon. But in the waiting room there are bookshelves filled with exotic and known brands of skin care and massage lotions and potions. Sprinkled throughout on shevlevs and on the desk where you sign in are some jewelry pieces. Not a lot. But there are neclaces, earings as unusal as some of their skin care lines. This is a very nice place. It's attractive, soothing, comfortable and unique. What makes it unique to me is:
it's in a home
unique decoration
the products they sell
and of course the quality of the massages are outstanding
So, I think you can add jewelry. They did. But most of their products were body/massage/skin care related.
I think Lesly had great advice. Research is #1 here. And since massage parlors are the subject, it should be fun, too! I'd suggest booking appointments (can be small, like a pedicure) at the top massage parlors in your area to see what they are doing and how they are doing it. They have already done the work in finding out what works and what doesn't, so understanding what the community appreciates should be a great start to the improvements you'll be making with your business!
You are right on track with the pre-thinking part of it, I think as long as its well merchandised you can certainly add those extra products. Even though you are not ready to lauch your idea just yet, the business planning you are already doing will help you a great deal when you are ready to launch.
