Hi Gang.

I'm Toyin and I just joined this morning. I've read a few posts and a couple of blogs and it's got me thinking that perhaps I may have jumped the gun a bit on my business.

I joined at the suggestion of a friend I met through another site because I just got into an MLM marketing program. Upon reading profiles here and finding a bit more about people, it seems that I should be promoting what I actually do a daily basis and have been doing for years, Human Capital Consulting.

I have a business that has done fairly well over the few years I've started it and I'm still hanging in there. Clients have all reduced spending and have much tighter budgets for obvious reasons. I finally decided to take the plunge and try the online 'making money ideas'.

I truly love what I do and I'm so passionate about it, I'm thinking perhaps I should be here promoting that as my main line of business, and perhaps talk about the MLM only when appropriate.

How feasible is it for me to get clients in a services oriented business on a site like this? Perhaps it would be much easier if I had a product to offer, but service sales, the non tangible sales, is it possible to do well with such in a non 'touch feely' environment such as this?

Forgive my ignorance if it comes across as such, I'm truly here to get knowledge and mingle with successful people. Success breeds success, right?

Thanks in advance.

Toyin

Hello Toyin,
I'm reasonably new to this site and other social networking sites, but it's more a way to market yourself than your business, in my opinion. When people learn about you, you may find that you can connect with those who could use your services. I'd say you can promote BOTH...your service business and your MLM.

Hi there,

I personally feel the MLM schemes are all a wash- especially here. The phrase "preaching to the choir" comes to mind. I think most of the market who tries out MLM will learn it is little more than someone else taking advantadge of your naivety and ambitions. However, I am open to being proven wrong. You can see the recent excitement the last year or so with online social networking. Sounds great for MLM'rs but really just the same old thing masquerading as new opportunity. For those out there who claim to be a success at it, I usually think they are misleading people in a desperate attempt to recover their losses.

By all means, I think your Human Capital Consulting is way more attractive. It sounds like a service with deliverables actually in demand by paying business clients. I wouldn't cheapen it with MLM- just my opinion. However, even having a solid service to offer, I do not think you would pick up much business with very many constituents here. I will be consulting along the same lines and using my online social networking as an enhancement to my marketing and outreach activities. The main lifeblood of my business will likely be found in my local community and in real business associations- just as in a typical business to business model. I suggest approaching the social networking element as a means to add value in that respect.

I am personally interested in the professional outsourcing aspects. When I see all these people appying their skills in the hopes of doing business for themselves I think that is a lot of capital that if properly applied in a real business model could really be the basis for a successful operation.

Best,

Anthony

Hi, Toyin, and Welcome!

My best advice about social/business networking sites is to behave the same way you would at a local Chamber of Commerce after hours function. No one runs up to you and launches into a long-winded sales pitch while aggressively shoving their business card in your face. These people don't last long (people move away and hide when they approach!) at Chamber after hours and they don't go very far here either. You don't seem like one of those at all. Most on this site have businesses, some just want you to join so that they get "points", but many are hear to listen, learn, connect, and build a freindship or business relationship. As long as that's your motivation, I think you'll be just fine.
