KP, I posted an "open letter" on My Profile Page that has helped out a lot in the reduction of spam. Please feel free to take a look. I also sent the letter to my Friend List.
I can assure you, this is a great network! My business and friendships have grown since I have become a member.
Unfortunately, some people don't "get it" or "don't care" and don't let the bad apples hurt your opportunities to network.
I am currently writing an education piece for explaining to new members how to completely eliminate spam to them. For now I will leave you with this...
1) You have complete control over what messages you receive. Any one who sends you a message you do not like, just click the "block messages from sender." Do not even bother asking them to stop.
2) In the settings section you can moderate all comments on your profile page. Nothing will be posted until you approve it. After the first week, you will have very little comment wall spam to moderate. http://sta.rtup.biz/profiles/settings/editProfileInfo
KP, there is a lot to be gained here. It's unfortunate that some people don't consider common courtesy or the fact that spamming people here will not gain them any credibility or sales. I ignore them. They really are the minority.
Welcome.
Michelle
I have yet to look into Ecademy. Sounds interesting. I'm glad you mentioned your annoyance with MLM schemes. I completely relate and have no interest. What I can tell you is Sta.rtup.biz has some terrific people worth exploring and who make a conscious effort NOT to blindly solicit themselves.
Plus...Ecademy doesn't have me! Let's talk about you and your business interests. I have a project here I'm working on to help influence more comprehensive interaction and relationship building. The key is much of this is what you make of it. So I'm interested to know what your ideal exp0ectations for social networking are and what you intend to do about it. Perhaps we are aligned.
Again, welcome and thanks for posting your thoughts.
Best,

Nooo-ooo! Don't go! A few bad apples in the barrel sadly disguise the fact that this Sta.rtUp.Biz is actually one of the best networking barrels on the web at the moment...
As SUp.biz, COO indicates, the key is to cull your messages/friends regularly. Once you get rid of the dross, you'll see the gold much more clearly.
Happy networking!
