Blog Tip

You can also achieve extended success by posting comments utilizing a really good blog that you created. Try and creating a blog around social networking topics or marketing a website. These will get the most traffic. Use a similiar comment style of template with a link to your blog. If it is a featured blog, then be sure to mention that.

Groups Tip

This is another great way to market through comments. The key here is to create a group that is somehow related to your industry that will appeal to others. Then you can create a comment that asks other members to join your group.

Feel free to ask any questions here on how to tailor your comments. We want you to succeed.

I fully agree with the article, but what about the products - marketing ideas is fine but marketing a good product is fulfilling. It will not generate billions of visitors but it is at least an honest approach and traffic isn't worth a Cent when it isn't leading to a happy customer who benefits from the deal I offer. Maybe not the way to become incredibly rich as apparently everybody else already is, but still my preferred approach to business. Good luck, Otmar

If you have a good product, then write a blog about the industry it is in and include a link to it within the blog.

If you offer Logo Design, then write an article about the 3 keys to designing a great logo. You can show examples of different logos that are on your website, and offer your package at the end when they are all ready to buy.

Fully agree again with you and it wasn't personally, just got caried away when the word traffic came up again - I just don't like it as it is too shallow. Sorry, this isn't the right place to get philosophical though and what you call traffic is what I call visitors, but maybe we mean the same anyhow. Thanks for the answer, it makes me feel good as I'm treated as a visitor ;-)

Please help me create a way of communicating my "Product" that doesn't violate site rules. The mission statement for Transitions Edge Productions, Inc. is "We are dedicated to the communication of Christ Jesus through the performing arts." Both the uninitiated and Christians alike are taken aback by the mention of product and spiritual matters in the same breath. However, I took and completed a Small Business course at Chicago State University and I have a business plan. Initially the instructor did not see how business rudiments applied until I explained to her that we had to do the same things any other business must do to flourish. We must develop a quality product and get it to market.

I don't sell preaching. I sell clean uplifting entertainment and training in the performing arts. Churches and corporate events is a multi-million dollar market. However, Churches and corporate entities are hesitant to hire you if they are not absolutely sure that you are not going to be inappropriate. So I post blogs that speak to my beliefs and my seasoning in those areas. I perform in professional comedy clubs and churches alike. I'm a professional. I am not naive. I know that there are people who are against religious stuff and that's cool. If they're not interested they can just ignore me the way I would ignore any other business that I was not interested in. I am not interested in trying to make anybody join anything. I just want people to know who I am and what I have to offer. They can take it or leave it.

Please check out my site and please tell me what you think. I appreciate your candor.

The whole idea like SUp.biz mentions is to share value as you post on other members pages. When you post a message that just pushes your own agenda you will have a VERY hard time earning money from your efforts. Why so? Because everyone will be ignoring your messages that's why! How do you know if you are truly sharing value with your posts? That's easy! Just read the comments you receive back on your own comment wall. If you are getting a bunch of generic responses back then you know you are being totally ignored by the people whose pages you are posting on. But if you start getting genuine thank yous coming in you know your target audience appreciates what you're posting and you should keep doing what you're doing!

Hi Matt,

My site is mostly informative but, yes, I do have products to sell related to my subject matter. I have spent so much time running here and there trying to find the marketing "key" which has eluded me I must say!
I have not been very active on this site and yes, I have received many messages from people who clearly have their own agendas and I am one who gives back generic responses.
I am sure that there are people out there who are interested in my field ( sexual abuse survivors) but I am not quite sure how to go about initiating a blog etc about my field of expertise when it isn't quite as easy as chatting about marketing in general.
Do you get the point I am trying to make?
I am hoping that maybe you can give me some general ideas of how to start or share some of your knowledge and expertise on how to reach my target audience? :)

Thank you and blessings,
Becky Herdmann

There are two main reasons for being on this network.

The first is to learn how to make your business a phenomenal success through networking with other small business owners.

The second is to network and do business with eachother.

I think you will benefit the most by focusing on the first one and spending your time making connections with people that can point you in the right direction. Search engine optimization of your site, internet marketing, and email marketing will all help focus in on your target audience.

Post a discussion in the General Business section of the forum and ask how to get in touch with your target audience. Give as much info as possible. How are you marketing your services right now? What type of traffic do you get? What is the pricing on each of your products or services? etc.

I am not sure if I am replying to Becky or Lydia, but many years ago; in the mid 80's a baseball coach, our neighboor was convicted in the largest group of boys in our city. My oldest Son is still tramatized by the whole ordeal. As I was the parent to report it when I felt very concerned and he told me plainly "Mom it's sexual abuse" he was 9 years old. When he was 17 he got his first DWI and has been accountable both paying with his ten year probation and with his money since. He refused counseling when I took him at age 11 but has requsted it through his proation officer and been refused each time. Where to turn? An attorney informed me that because of MADD his DWI has kept him chained to the system his entire life. Help... A Mother looking for Hope.

Hi Becky. Thanks for chiming in! I suggest you just start speaking from your heart on your blog and speak real to people about how to overcome the effects of sexual abuse. When you speak from the heart others will listen I promise. I suggest you also start up a thread on the discussion forum sharing a few ways abuse victims can cope with what happened to them. Once you have it put together just go out and start meeting other members here at sta.rtup.biz via their comment walls.

If you follow this approach you should do well:

First paragraph -- greetings. Make sure to use the person by name and comment on something you just read on their profile.

Second paragraph -- network building. Encourage the reader to participate more on sta.rtup.biz because it really is a great way to network and build up your business. Doing so will get more activity taking place here and also subtly lets the reader know you are interested in networking with them.

Third paragraph -- invitation to come check out your blogs and profile. When you ask someone to do so and share a little bit about the content you share you will get traffic. Also invite them to come invite you as a friend. Doing so will get them over to your profile too!

The cool thing is you can write the last two paragraphs on notepad. Then after you write the greetings you can copy and paste the rest.

Hi Becky,

And basically to reiterate what seems to be the advice to you, just take a look at my 'field of expertise'. I talk about this whenever I have a chance to.

I'm Not Crazy...I Just Needed a Tuneup

That's the first thing we in the Black Community would say if someone suggested that we 'see a therapist'. But, let me be the first to tell you, I've been to therapy. It wasn't at all what I had expected. It was early morning in 2003, the month was March. I was the only black guy in the room. I had just turned 40 back in December. I went to therapy 'on my own' ( I'll explain later why I say it this way ). There was 1 black woman, and the others were white, ranging from a couple of 18 year olds to a couple of guys who were in their 80's. Their was about 8 or 9 of us. The group therapy was basically like a classroom setting, whose hours were from 9 am until 3 pm. We would go home at the end of the session, and come back the next day, Monday thru Friday. We'd have 3or 4 activities, or mini-sessions, that we'd attend, together, every day. I only expected to be in there for 'maybe a week' ( that's what my mind told me ). I ended up being in there for a whole month! I still can't believe that I was in there that long. But, I learned a lot, and so did the others. The main lessons that I learned from being in those sessions was that 1) life was not to be taken soooo seriously, and that 2) the problems that you think you have were miniscule compared to the ones others were going through ( some of my best poems were inspired from that period of my life, hence the name, 'Inspiredbyu' ), but 3) stress can, and will, take you out if you don't do something about it. The reason that I even went to therapy was stress related. I had it, and really didn't know it. I just knew that I wasn't acting normally. So, I sucked it up and said, 'what the heck', and I signed myself up ( I still don't care for the words 'commit myself', which you were actually doing, and are the very words that I truly believe scares the Black Community, especially black men ). I guess in a nutshell, the moral of this story is basically the little speach that I gave all of my 'classmates' in the waning days of my stay there. I told them all that I was walking history. I said to them that they will NEVER see a young black man 'commit' himself, again, but that if they did see it, he would probably be there because the judge or some other authority sent them. I also said that most of them wondered why I was even there. I heard it basically every day that I didn't look as if I was having any issues, and I wasn't taking any medications, which quite a few of them were, even the young ones. I told them that that was the scary part. I looked normal. Most people do. So, if I look normal, that means I don't have any problems, right? Wrong! I'd just spent a whole month in there with all of them. But, I felt as if the 800 lb gorilla had been lifted off of my shoulders! I told them not to fret that a couple of them had been in the proverbial revolving door because they kept coming back periodically. They just needed a tuneup. They were four cylinders. I was the Northstar engine ( Cadillac engine for those who don't know ), and therefore didn't need a tuneup as often. But, all vehicles eventually need one. So, for all of the 'normal-looking' people walking around who'd never been to therapy, they're all overdue. The therapists were so impressed by the advice that I was giving out every day, that all of them at one time or another asked me did I have a degree of some nature in their field of expertise. I should have told them that I do, like I said
in one of my poems, 'A degree in life's experiences we've all got'. So, as you can see, 'I'm not Crazy'. I just needed a tuneup. I carry this story like a badge of pride. Don't be afraid. Just 'tell it like it is'.
