Hi there, so I was exploring Linkedin Q&A and came across this question. I'm also in the process of exploring Twitter, so I asked and was given permission to repost here.

"Would anyone be interested in following a twittercast of an adventure sports expedition tomorrow?

I will be using Twitter to document my step by step adventure tomorrow. The first will be to acend and snowboard down Tuckermans Ravine @ Mt. Washington NH, immediately followed by sky diving and then will finish the event with surfing at sundown......all in one day. The twittercast kicks off when I wake up tomorrow and will last throughout the day.

To follow the event, follow me on twitter at http://twitter.com/garmitage. "

Why not take a look at this and contemplate it for your business? As usual, I'll stop by with my own insights later. However, I will say I just met this person on this question and it seems like he's going to be doing something I'd rather be doing on a Saturday. Just imagine the bumper sticker for these, "I'd rather be..., ..., ...." Lol!

You have definitely Creates a new Triathlon. Go For It! Be careful on Tuckerman's watch out for the rocks.

Closest I came to this was a week's vacation, split between 3 days at Killington, and 3 in Bahamas.

Hey Mike,

Right on! I'd like to hear all about it. Did you Twittercast it?

If so, it would be neat to know how you can reference the event. If not, maybe you could blog about it somewhere and Twitter the web address, or something like that. I'll probably stop by your Twitter page later and take a look into how you use it.

I'm not using Twitter yet, but for those of you who are- maybe you could follow Gregg's Twittercast. He's keeping a tally of how often his friend tells him, "Game on!". I think it would be neat to see a statistic of how many people follow his event today.

Best,

Anthony

Not a winter sport person. But love the adventure in you.

Thinking sping and swimming in a lovely heated pool. Delish.

But Twitter me anytime. Good luck with your venture!

Hey LeTicia,

Right on! I'm totally stoked you thought of commenting on this thread. You know you are one of my favorite online personalities. If I do decide to start using Twitter, then I will be sure to Twitter you.

So you are thinking of spring and swimming in a heated pool. That does sound good. I think that personal note on "What you are doing (thinking about) right now?" is a perfect example of the Twitter concept. What I find interesting is how the event got you thinking about your own outdoor environment awareness and recreational pleasures.

Me too. Where I live in NorCal has a moderate spring climate this time of year. It's perfect for agriculture and we have this phenomana refered to as the Sierra Factor. There's something really sweet about the air when we get one of those refreshing winds from the North and all the walnut and almond trees are in bloom. At the same time, we're only an hours from the mountains and the ocean. You can really cool down by getting some elevation under you, warm up in the valley, and then cool down again in the Pacific.

For me, today I'm sticking around town and will be on and offline throughout the day. Maybe I'll go for a swim. Good idea.

Best,

Anthony

Very cool,

I talked to Gregg yesterday and he said he was just trying out Twitter for the first time. He's apparently been doing this Triple S (Snowboard, Skydive, Surf) Adventure Expedition for years. This is the first time he's basically Twittercasting it online. Looks like he's got an entertaining session so far.

I liked his early morning posts. He mentioned he had Higher Ground playing and a big smile for the day ahead. That got me going too. I jumped on Playlist.com and listened to that and a whole bunch of my favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers songs. Then I thought about putting a song on my website that would help promote this outdoor adventuring and modern social technology phenomena. Open a window forwww.nascentdynamics.com if you'd like to hear the song I chose for my playlist.

I started thinking about a simul-cast inspired by this event today. I've got an interest in outdoor adventure too. I've been thinking for a while that where I live, makes for a great base-camp. I've got a group on my social network Area Light http://arealight.ning.com/group/norcal that I think provides me with a social marketing advantage. You see, relating to people on outdoor adventuring and places where you are or know you can do this kind of thing is a special area of interest you can use to break the ice and enjoy all kinds of conversation on. I'm going to head over there after this post and comment more on how Northern California offers Snowboarding, Skydiving, and Surfing all in the span of a Saturday.

Anthony

Look's like he's started the snowboarding phase now. One of the cool things about snowboarding is the ascent. If you actually climb a mountain it can take all morning to reach the place where you are going. It's a great way to enjoy nature, the weather, and get some excercise. Then you go down in a 20 minute grand finale.

It reminds me of the saying, "Someone who has 100 miles to go, should plan on the last 5 as half the journey." With social networking, it might seem like forever to build a base sufficient to help you accomplish some business goals. Then again, there might be a point you reach where it all comes together in the moment, and you retrace all the work you did from an even more enjoyable perspective.

Ooh! A little drama!

It appears they were running a little behind schedule and there was a chance they might miss the jump. Additionally, there is a chance the jump might not even happen due to the day being overcast.

Kind of neat to be following this event. They posted a few photos from the mountain and it looks great. Plus, I guess there is another guy Twittering on the trip, so you could get another perspective. Pretty neat.

You can see there has been at least a dozen updates posted today. This does not include some updates leading to the event. The tally appears to represent the life of the Twitterer so tracking interest in a particular event might not be feasible on the platform. However, like Facebook, I hear there are all kinds of gadgets you can use to modify information/ presentation.

You can see there are about 20 people following this (who are registered Twitterers). These people could be commenting on the photos etc, but I'm not sure if you could have some kind of two way interplay to comment on someone else's page other than that. Stat-wise, I think the figure represents total followership. I noted earlier there were 14 followers. So at least the word has gotten out to 6 new followers.

Another kind of interesting feature is the "following" stat. I noted he is following Richard Branson. I think Branson is pretty cool too. Maybe I'll look into his Twitter page later on.

Having a few different activities in a day increases the pressure, and I think this dynamic tension makes the event a little more exciting. It certainly forced him to get to an early start. If he can't do the flight, then the day is not lost. The question is whether or not it was because they got behind schedule or the weather was the factor out of their control. Either way, the diversity of activities in the event means if you drop one, you still have plenty of fun to share. If you only had one planned, then a problem could make the whole thing a bust.

Best,

Anthony

I had a feeling there were technical difficulties such as a dead cell phone. I checked this morning and the Triple S was completed- and topped off with some drinks.

Now the neat thing about all of this is I guess they followed up with a site that seems dedicated to the event. They intend to post a documentary video I guess. Gregg mentioned to me they would be publishing something for distribution as a follow through. I didn't realize the scope of this project when I looked into his Linkedin profile.

The site seems to be coming together to include a range of contemporary interests from music, adventure excursions, and I suppose coaching services. Looking at the site, I noted it seemed to have a distinctive Wetpaint platform feel, but could be custom. They also have a Facebook project that supports this. It was very interesting to see how aligned we are, particularly since I was just shadowing the event of some guy- not knowing him or what his projects were other than trying out Twitter. That's a great lead in to a social networking relaionship I would think.

Nascent Dynamics ( ) Hypermodern Evolutions is my version of this activity. I focus on the skills such as visualization, adventure, and modern media documentaries. I intend to use video and other integrated online platforms to present what we do. That would essentially be a first interface with my business people might encounter, thus a line in to my personal, professional, and organizational consulting services. I basically want to produce customized Nike commercials with people. Just do it!

So plenty more to explore. I think I may document a lot of aspects of this encounter in some of my other activities. Gregg and his friends seem like a terrific group I might like to attract to my social network Area Light. I have a project there where I explore people. sites, and businesses. Gregg and ViVe life are certainly an interest area. As far as first impressions and approaches to networking, I think they set a good example.

Twittercasting was worth the exploration. It came across just right. I'm still not ready to use Twitter, but now I have a lot of interesting ideas I didn't before and know of someone I'd be interested in following if/ when I do. So please feel free to share your thoughts and omment on this discussion.

Twitter does not do it for me, you need to buy the applications upfront, for a small struggling lady, I said no to twitter, and I am not big into credit cards...those cards can land you in hot water

Yuku is free, and many other great places to blog..

Twitter is just blogging, yuku and other platforms offer you free applications, I agree with paying for them, everyone needs to make a living, but someone starting out? Twitter is when you business has some money to advertise.

Reply to This

Hmmm....yes. I have yet to decide on Twitter. From what I can see, you get the basic platform for free. If I were to use it, I would prefer some exceptional conceptual approach to attract followers, but I would also accept that it will have to be simple and not draw from the premium account and advertising services.

I recently saw a widget app embedded on one of my social networks. The interface looked far more advanced than what you see with the basic Twitter. I'm probably going to look into that, but I won't take it if it costs. With that said, without that free application, I'm not so sure I want Twitter. So more research ahead.

Also noted a Twitter group here on Sta.rtUp.Biz. You can see an insight into the Twitter culture including professional tips and basically a demonstration of tweets. The group owner did mention you must have a Twitter account to post. So that excludes me for the time being!
