" Why am I who I am, and why am I born to who I am born to, and why is it set up the way it is set up? "
We say,
" For the fun of it. For the joy of it. For the expansion of it. For the growth of it. For the difference in it. For the desire producing value in it. "
I feel I am here for a purpose; some of which I am aware, and some of which I am being gradually shown. Although I am quickly moving past middle age, I'm 66, I am still learning and growing and feel I am being called on to do things out of my comfort zone. There are needs that humanity has that I, in conjunction with others who have had similar experiences and learned similar knowledge, am to add to the value of life through our community efforts. Right now in California poor people will no longer be able to get dental care at the cost of MediCal. We are aware that everyone has to pitch in and help our country in this time of crisis, but to take away a very important element of maintaining or obtaining good health should not even be considered. Even prisoners are given proper health care including trips to the dentist. This is a terrible slap in the face for those who perhaps through no fault of themselves find themselves dependent on the state for care and assistance. Surely there must be other ways to trim the fat from the California budget other than risk the health of its most fragile citizens. We are relegated to standing in long lines, filling out massive forms, having to travel or walk great distances, suffer while waiting for appointments and endure the embarrassment of having a less-than-perfect smile with the inability to chew and process our food properly. What more are we expected to give? When we answer the question, "who am I," like millions of others we answer that "we are citizens and human beings of America. We are also children of a compassionate God who despite how we are treated, are allowed to breath the same air, dream the same dreams, and have the same needs as our wealthier brothers and sisters. To those who agree with this policy have you asked yourself "who am I?" The answer is, "there but for the grace of God go I."
