I have tried and failed several times before gaining some success this time with my mobile pet grooming business. I think the difference this time was I had taken a class at Santa Monica City College that taught how to figure out what you were good at and what type of work you would enjoy doing. At that point in my life I had undergone a lot of changes, lost my oldest daugher and was tying to figure out what I wanted.
I learned that:
1: I needed to be in complete and total control.
2. I needed to have flexibility in the days and times I would work.
3. Ability to determine which customers I would take on, and which ones I could refuse..
4. Ability to control HOW much my time is worth, instead of accepting an hourly wage from someone else.
5. Creative and personal freedom because I am the one who is in control.
These are the driving forces that power my ability to continue to run my business, no matter what problems have cropped and there were a LOT of challenges early on. I am happy with my decision and will stay the course. If I get tired of dog grooming I know enough about myself now to realize that business ownership is the ONLY option for myself.

1st of all, let me state that I'm sorry to hear about the lost of your daughter. I hope that you have been able to work through that situation. The loss of a loved one is never easy. It was also good to read that you took the needed steps in order for you to have balance and control over your life. It truly looks like this discussion gave you the opportunity to place the 5 important things that helped you to form your business. You know it might be worth your while to visit local vet shops and see if you can network with them on their customers. Maybe with each customer that they give, you might consider a $25 finders fee to them.

Good Luck with your pet grooming business!

Lee I am just exhilarated being in business for myself! Selling myself hourly for $$ has no appeal any longer. There's nothing more powerful and fulfilling than building a business with your bare hands, getting knocked down and bruised but rising to fight another day... the human spirit is unshakable!
