I love Twitter. I enjoy meeting new people and getting to know them. It's who I am and what I do. That's why I'm in the business I'm in.. I love people.
What I don't enjoy is being sold something all the danged time.. lol
While one of the reasons I Tweet is business.. my business is about people. I want to get to know the people I'm following and those I follow. #RT is fun and a great way to help others out.
I heard a while back that the best way to succeed is to help other succeed. Today was a perfect example. A fellow life coach Tweeted her coaching offer. It was a great idea and a good deal. I #RT for her. She wrote me a nice message. WE made friends.
A few hours later when I posted an invitation to join my LOA network.. guess what??
She #RT my Tweet.
My point is.. use Twitter to make friends not just sale something. The Tweets are going to PEOPLE.. not computers.
While I do talk about my articles and even give a link now and again to one of my sites.. over 95% of my Tweets are something to make people feel good, a wonderful video.. etc. It's not all about selling my business.. it's about connecting with fellow Beings.
Great post! Twitter is all about the Relationships. The numbers help but its the Real Relationships that make Twitter home. You've figured that out, thanks for sharing.

RT is a Re-Tweet of Someone else's original Tweet. TweetDeck has this as a built in feature, which is another good reason to use TweetDeck rather than just a Web Browser.

Thanks everyone for reading and commenting.
I haven't been with Twitter long, but I have been in the people business for over 15 years. I realized a long time ago that these "customers" were people.
We humans love that one on one, that eye to eye, heart to heart sharing.
By keeping it real on Twitter and elsewhere in your business you attract people to YOU..not just your business.
Oh, and if you only post links through Twitter.. I will unfollow you, left 300 in the dust yesterday.
Twitter is about real content, real connection.. not just trying to get me to sign up for the latest way to make a quick buck online. I laugh and unfollow those..
Love yourself well.. always..

I'm following you now. :o) Thank goodness I don't just post links!
The other thing that drives me up a wall is when people join those "get followers quick without doing anything" apps. I unfollowed a personal acquaintance because that's all the tweets in her timeline. Another friend signed up with one of those and I had to warn her to be careful. Quality followers drop you like a hot potato, or choose not to follow you at all.
All the followers I have I gained the hard way. One at a time after visiting each timeline and actually reading their tweets.
I've seen a number of Twitter Tweeple who have 1000's of followers and never, ever tweeted. What is the point???
"get followers quick without doing anything". I hate those things too. Unfortunately, if you're curious and click on one of those "get followers" links, you're stuck. I clicked on one, spent about 15-seconds on the site and for weeks afterward, the site automatically posted several times a day to twitter using my name. I couldn't get them to stop. Now, fortunately, after about 6 weeks, they seem to have stopped. This is just a warning, I guess, to be careful about the links you click.
I so agree that it shouldn't be all about promoting our business. We should take the time to get to know the people that we follow/ that follow us. I've met some amazing people behind the scenes that have been very helpful in ways I didn't expect. Thanks for posting
