We must educate our youth the fundamentals of health and fitness. In doing so, health and fitness will manifest itself into a lifestyle rather than a mere task or repositioning of one's lifestyle. Let's educate, motivate and create healthy living for our youth! Make life worthwhile!
I'm not sure that education is the whole key. I think there is a lot of emotional education that is needed also. One of the kids said it best. "It helps to be around others who are struggling with their weight" "We are all in the same boat" !!! Perhaps this emotional support is often lacking among family, friends, & our work environment. This means we all must be committees of one to give support when & where we can!!
Absolutely! Everyone should provide support in every way possible. Obesity is a major epidemic for both adults and youth and is steadily rising. One must ask, why is the emotional support lacking as such? There are many underlying elements that are the contributing factors to the lack of emotion and knowledge within our society and specifically 'the home'. We must identify the problem at hand and educate ourselves in order that adequate support is provided. Remember, children imitate their atmosphere.
In terms of education, I speak of education in every aspect - - emotionally, fundamentally and most importantly educating by means of implementation. It starts from the home. Let's face it, it would be glorious if more of the community, family, and friends commit to the support of this awful epidemic. But the reality is, it's not happening enough. Therefore we as parents, must take back the power and educate ourselves so that we may educate (in all aspects) our children. In doing so, the chances of diverting from the ways in which they were taught will be less problematic. We must reposition our mindsets from the societal nutritional dilemma that often prompts compromise and temptation and therefore plagues our health.
We need to teach our children the basics of healthy eating from an early age. It is no use blaming this or that. If you teach them what is healthy and what is not, that will be a great start.
Kids actually do like real food if they are introduced to it early. Too many parents and care givers just offer easy to get ready made and processed stuff thinking that is all that kids will eat.
I am disgusted by restaurants and cafes and their childrens' menus. Fish and chips, pizza and chips, nuggets and chips, chips chip chips. Kids are quite capable of eating real food. Why does everyone think that kids will only eat junk??
I totally agree! If you teach your children at an early age, it is simply a way of life. My kids truly amaze me - - they really have a great palette for real and whole foods. It is all that they know!
