The reason there are so many diets and so many books with differing approaches to nutrition is that no one knows all the answers and also because people vary a lot in what type of diet works best for them. I tend to be practical and have to eat on a budget so can not afford to buy more expensive products just because someone thinks they are far superior to a cheaper product. I don't trust any one source when it comes to diet or fitness and am not prone to a certain idealogy when it comes to my approach.

My focus in life is spiritual and my exercise I do all involve focusing intensely on my breathing and some are designed especially in order to rev the nervous system up a degree so as to get me to breath more than the exercise itself requires. This extra breathing is what gives any exercise a mind-body emphasis or a meditative quality. All my exercises wear me out quickly because of their intensity.

Every day in the early morning, I first do a brief warm up exercise(1 minute) with a movement a little like the twist(in dance). I then do my stretching, stretching each muscle briefly a few times while breathing really hard. Every other day I do about 5 minutes of weight lifting using two 5lb weights to warm up and then using one 20 lb weights exercising quite a few muscles doing each movement 2 to 4 times. I then move on to a 40 lb weight in which I do a few exercises 2 to 3 times with one hand and then I do some exercises using two hands. I then do(every day again) my fast foot movement(low impact)run, timing my breathing with the fast foot movements(breathing in with one ste and out with the next). I last 7 minutes doing this and then do a meditative walk for two minutes home.

Mid morning a do a slow meditative walk with slow short careful steps with a slight side to side motion breathing in with on step and out with the next. I do this for 15 minutes. Late in the afternoon I do a fast meditative walk with similar techniques as the slower meditative walk but with quick steps. I last about 10 minutes doing this and do a slow meditative walk for two minutes to get home.

I keep my diet quite simple these days so as to know how to adjust it if I must. I push myself really hard spiritually and have to adjust my diet at times. I eat 4 small meals a day and do restrict calories. I eat a little rice with all but one of my middle meals. In the meals I eat with rice I have some canned greens. I have a carrot with some nonfat milk for one of my middle meals. With all my other meals I either use whey protein and nonfat milk as my protein source. I have a high protein requirement so I try to get about 20 grams of protein per meal. I do add some salt to my meals. I do add a tablespoon of canola oil to my first and last meal. My diet is still low in fat overall.

I take a lot of vitamin-mineral supplements and buy the cheap ones. I think they work adequately for my needs. I take vitamin C(500mg)with all 4 of my small meals. I take a B-complex vitamin and a multi-vitamin-mineral tablet twice a day with my first and last meal(meals in which I take a tablespoon of canola oil with). With one of these same meals I take a vitamin E tablet(400IU). I take calcium-magnesium tablets 4 times a day also, because I need to keep my body from getting to acid.

I am very intensely into the spiritual, and as a result I find my body tend to have been affected by this extreme type emphasis. This emphasis on meditation makes it harder to get my body to want to speed up or to focus on muscle building. Even when I was not restricting calories that was still true. So I find it is very important that I put an awful lot of concentration into the exercises I do do. I trust my very well trained intuition to decide what works best for me. I have gotten sick or run into other problems when I paid too much attention to sources of nutritional or fitness information wrote, and did not trust my intuition enough.

My diet will probably loosen up a bit in the future. I can add more fruits and vegetables replacing rice in some meals with a fruit. I can replace canola oil with nuts. I can replace milk protein with soy protien. I will continue to restrict calories and use my will power(valuable spiritual training) to handle the hunger that results. I have to keep lean.
