Yours is a great story Denise - thank you for sharing. And thanks to the many members who have left comments to me about being happy to have this site. It is my pleasure to hold our military family in gratitude and appreciation - and I am also happy to announce that my Son is home from Iraq.

I just found this announcement - thought I would share.

Xerox is hosting a "Thank You" to the troops. Visit LetsSayThanks.com to pick out a thank you card. Xerox will print the card and send it to a Soldier serving in Iraq. You will not be able to choose the recipient, but all cards will go to our servicemembers.

I'm so glad I found this group. I come from a military family as well as married into one. I'd like to share my story with you.(I'll keep it short) My Dad was in the Army before I was born. I listened to all his military stories and got quite a kick out of them. It was a positive experience for him. Later on I met a guy who swept me off my feet and had recently retired From the USAF. Shortly after learning of his history I found that his Dad volunteered to join the army. He left his wife and 2 boys to go off to fight for his country. About the time the war had ended and they were set to come back home, he was killed by a sniper at age 23 in Feb 1945. My husband was only 3, his brother 4. The only memory he has of his dad is the train bringing his remains back. After years of heartache and my husband still having so many unanswered questions, we were able to find a website and connect with a man who was with my husband's dad the day he was killed. It was such a great relief for my husband to talk with him and learn that he was not alone, nor did he suffer. It was quick. His mom later went on to marry a marine fighter pilot who did a tour in Korea. I now have a whole different view of the military than I did growing up. We are so very much dedicated to the military. We dedicate every memorial day weekend and throughout the year to my father in law and all the troops serving and who have served. The support we give them means much more than most can ever imagine. I often visit youtube and view the videos of military families surprise homecomings, especially the kids and wish my husband had the opportunity to experience that.It has however, made him a stronger man. He went on to serve his country for 20 years and retired a Msgt. His dad would have been so proud. Please remember our troops as we're decorating for the holidays, shopping, preparing the home cooked meals etc. They not only want our support....they need it. Have a wonderful Holiday.

Molly and others who have commented on this group. I have email a newsletter editor about putting the information for sending a Christmas card to Walter Reed Hospital. I am a big supporter of our military and have friends that serve. They do a great job and we should all be proud of the job they do. I have dedicated a page on my web site to American Heroes and have placed several links to groups who support the military and their families. This is a great site.

An Idea

When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and
send it to this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get.

A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington,D.C. 20307-5001

Suggestion - You might say:
We thank you for our freedom and wish you all the very best in the New Year.
OR
Thank you for a job well done, wishing you the best in the New Year and always.

If you are moved to do so, please pass it on.

My son left home for Military duties on July 12, 2007, so I gave him a toll-free number to call us anytime he can. He said it works great from any phone, it doesn't cost him anything and is much easier to use than calling cards. They do not allow cell-phones in Basic training.

LOCAL BUSINESS MAN IS HELPING OUR TROOPS AND CHILDREN IN A UNIQUE AND SPECIAL WAY!

Gary Tennant, CEO of Private Coach Limos volunteers his time and the services of his limos to pick up returning veterans at the airport and take them home in style, giving them special VIP treatment. He also takes children and their family home from the hospital in style with one of his special limos that includes a stop at the local ice cream shop for a special treat. Gary likes to give the family something positive to remember about their hospital stay. Gary covers the cost of his vehicles and his time for this service that brings him as much joy as it does the families. Recently, someone asked him if she could send him a $50 contribution to help cover some of the cost for gas. He was humbled by her offer and graciously accepted. She then said that she was going to tell her business women’s group of more than 400 women about what he was doing and ask them to help support his wonderful humanitarian and generous effort. Gary Tennant is giving to families in the valley in a way that brings them fun and an experience that many have never had. That treats with dignity and respect and tells them they are special. He treats like them like VIP's! I would like to suggest that if you would like to help contribute in a unique way to our service men and women, as well as those children and families who have been challenged with a hospital stay, be brought home in style and fun that you contact Gary directly to see how you might help him out. And, if you are in need of special transportation for an event or just want to treat someone to something special, contact Private Coach Limos or give Gary a call. His rates are some of the most reasonable in the valley. You can reach Gary directly at 602/653-9340 or email him at gary@privatecoachlimos.com

AWESOME Gary - just awesome! Thank YOU for your service to our military families!!!!

Seems to me that many of us are in businesses that could provide special perks to our military...

I have FREE greeting cards that can be used by soldiers and their families - so if you have soldier far away - please send them a card, and express my gratitude as well.

Anyone else with services or products that you might be able to share with our soldiers? If so - please post so that we can share!
