Here is one of my friends, Stephane Dube.
I first met Stephane here on Sta.rtUp.Biz and I am very glad I did. He actually reached out to me and commented on one of my blogs. From there, we proceeded to e-mail, chat, and occassionally check in on eachother. Stephane is one of the only people I have met who surf profiles and drop "hi's".
He's also got a terrific and motivating personality. He created the Investor/ Inventor group here, which I think took off exponentially to over 300 members in a matter of weeks. I have another friend I have been discussing specialized directory with who would be surprised to know Stephane did this in his group a long time ago. He listed the website of every member who joined in the text field of his group.
He's also one of the only guys who will send a message saying, "Let's rock this thing!". It is always business casual with him; he's not trying to sell anyone anything. He puts out motivation as a byproduct of his own entrepreneurial vision. Maybe it is that he is French Canadian, he operates with the general assumption of community, but I get just as much enjoyment from his accent...which translates perfectly.
I highly recommend checking out his product demo video. Like I said, he's not trying to sell you anything- he's promoting his invention through online social networking. It's simply fantastic. I think his vision is infectious, and I have entertained ideas at my liesure on some occassions to help him. The least I can do is encourage him to that success. As far as social networking, I think he is already a success. It's a pleasure to profile him.
Stephane's got an empathy to the spirit of enterprising entrepreneurship...it's an adventure! I don't know about you, but it pleases me to no end to see Stephane Dube's page on Sta.rtUp.Biz listed just below SUp on the Google SEO. That means all you have to do is promote a search of Sta.rtUp.Biz, and you are indirectly promoting Stephane's vision.
Phenomenal Business People's is Stephane's social network on Ning. I particularly find fascinating how many international business people are attracted to that network. He's always got some music to entertain you too. I think, if you have an idea for a business, then it cannot hurt to take a stroll with Stephane, because he's all about taking an idea through to materialization.
Stephane also introduced me to a special social network I would recommend to anybody interested in Ning, The Red Road. He shares an interesting story of a native American he personally knew.
So Stephane was not an inventor, but he took an idea and patented it. That's easier said than done, and requires a strict application typically engaging engineers and attorneys. He created a prototype, and I even believe he won some show for the best invention. What is it? Well I like to imagine it like a movie...
The movie starts with some really good music and then starts showing a collage of articles from papers, magazines, video, interview clips, pictures of people who fell while working on buildings. You know, that classic black and white picture of a bunch of guys eating lunch on a metal frame bar...stories above a city. That's always been the price of the advance of industry in America, it's locomotive and runs over a lot of people in the process. My own grandfather. an Irish man, was killed working on the railroad. Perhaps my story is similar to the story he shares.
There's a real injustic to it and it affects generations. Families have been eaten by predators and greedy mongrels looking to make a dime at their expense. However, in America anyways, these injustices are written in blood. I'm talking about safety. So show a bunch of headlines about OSHA and companies who cut corners to save a buck, or rob people of their self-worth. That's a lead in to the environment, as well as making smarter systems to handle resources and compete globally better.
Enter Stephane with his patented window washing system. His idea starts with the simple idea of washing windows on buildings without risking people's lives. So basically an average Joe with a passionate idea for the sake of improving the world and becoming a success. It's an automatic squigee on a track with a self-fed cleaning solution all on a timer.
I bet Stephane may just find his investors from the green products industry. He needs to get promoted to corporate facility managers and building owners. He also needs to get featured on some kind of home improvement show. He'd be perfect for The Today Show and Good Morning America too. I think he might be a regular sensation.
So if you are an inventor or startup, it's worth your while to check out Stephane Dube. How does one go about promoting a concept and finding investors? It is possible that if you get the word out to enough people, they end up telling the idea to the right ears and viola! Would an environmentally clean window washing product company see this system as a product they could help finance for businesses with building overhead costs that would save those clients money, reduce liability and maintenance costs? I would think it a good idea as such a facilitation would likely ensure increased utilization of the product and long term buying agreements.
Who knows? It could be solar panels that put Stephane in the spotlight. Do solar panels provide more energy from sunlight when they are clean? Right there you already get a building renovation subsidized with grants and write offs that save businesses money. It could be people writing their congressmen as a matter of hobby to please enforce environmentally and safety regulations, reduce unnecessary mishaps happening at the willful neglegence of the greedy. I know there are a lot of honest businesses out there who have a hard enough time as it is. So tax dollars from bailout might be directed heavily to the environmental "greening" and "energizing" initiatives. I think safety and cleanliness in general are appealing initiatives in themselves. Perhaps they ought to make it illegal for man driven escalator platforms to be used for window cleaning anymore...knowing that a technology now exists.
Finally, it just might be a people thing. Here is a genuinely nice and innescapably likeable guy with a family, a business plan, and a dream. He's tranparently including everyone on his project and always thinking of ideas to make it happen. That's entertainment enough I think!
It's been a while since I looked Stephane up. I think I might go for a walk, take this discussion on the road, and see what Stephane's up to. Maybe I can get him to join the conversation here.
Best,
Anthony Reardon
