Hi Ladies: I'm putting together an article and looking for tips and advice on how to balance being a mom and running your own business.

I am also looking for any stats on women business owners who are also moms.

Please respond ASAP.

Hi,

My advice would be 'focus'. You need to make sure you are focusing on what you have to do at the time.

As I run my t-shirt printing business from home and home educate both my children it is possible that I find it easier to balance time with my children than those mums who have children out at school because my children are always here.

As I had a large printing order to complete this morning, my children were playing. When I was finished we spent an hour in the garden playing and then spent time doing 'school' work.

This does not necessarily mean that I would advise all mums to home educate!

Keep a 'to do' list - normally one as long as your arm and if need be put on that list to spend time with the children or a specific of what to do with the children. As well as jobs that need doing around the house. You will then see what is a priority and even see things dropping off the list because you never had time to do them and therefore sorted themselves out...........somehow!

Don't know if that is really any helpful advice.

thanks Pauline - I appreciate it. I like the 'to do list' idea.

I try to fit in as much as I can on the computer and on the phone inbetween my family obligations. I don't know if that's really a tip, but it works for me.

As each year goes by, I constantly lower my expectations because I'm realizing as the kids get older, the busier life gets, so the big projects, or even the ideal projects, may not get done right now. But that's okay....

Another thing that helps me is knowing that it's going to be busier right at first as I build my business. It won't always be like this. Having a time frame and knowing that there's an end result definitely helps.

You have to know how to manage your time wisely. I've learned a lot about time management as a business owner and mother. You need to treat your business like a real job and set your hours. If you think you are able to work 40 hours a week then block out 40 hours each week for you to just focus on your business. I wrote an article about organizing your business that might have a few tips to help you. If you have any further questions or want more tips just let me know. I'll gladly share with you what I have experienced.
