Oh yes, and to answer your question, "Skeptical, and lack info"

There's WAY TOO MUCH going on with all that has been included into this package, and not knowing enough right now is VERY DANGEROUS, in my opinion.

Here's three links that give some "non-commercial"
information about the package.

first is AARP, second is Heritage Foundation, and last is SBA.

"I will but first want to see the reaction from all of you which is . . ."

Hopeful, skeptical, lacking information.

Googling Stimulus resulted in an almost irresistible offer to buy a CD which will explain how the stimulus can help me out personally.

Most of the rest is mass information leading to more sale offers and bargain discounts.

What's the link, anyway, to the actual stimulus package? Has anyone read it? Just curious.

I think I'll hold off for a bit also. Anxious to see what you all are thinking might be a help or a hurt in the package...

Ok New Thinkers our tank's running a little dry here, time to shake things up.

New Thinking is suppose to be a place where contributors like us will come up with new ideas as to how best resurrect our business lives, or, if you are fortunate enough to be doing well with no need of resurrection, to share ideas regarding how you do in a time when many do not. If you have that, give it up!

Again, a little dry so let's tackle one specific topic that affects us all; one that is in the news most every day and is controversial to boot.

Stimulus.

What do you think? What will work, what will not with "work" being defined as helping us get back to economic growth.

Please note, I am asking for what works and what does not as opposed to a philosophical discussion of the merits of intervention. In other words let's try to leave our politics at the door and just discuss which if any of the proposed "tools" will do the job.

I will but first want to see the reaction from all of you which is . . .

Thanks Nanc and William for the thoughts and comparisons of F2F and Cyber connects.

How about the rest of the group. Which do you find most productive currently? Are you a dyed in the wool Face to Face networker using Cyber connects to amplify possibilities, or are you a Cyber Commando, who grudgingly has to "press the flesh" once in awhile too? :-)

Which arena is building your business the most these days?

Dan, I believe your business card exercise is networking at its best. Personal.

With due respect to virtual networking like we do here, or as happens on the personal relation social sites such as Facebook, My Space, etc., no matter how many contacts or "friends" one has, that is no substitute for the real deal.

Also important, you gave them the best possible advice when establishing a relationship. Ask about the other person before you tell them about you.

Our virtual networking efforts are all good and well but we should never lose sight of the reason we do that, which is to meet people. Whenever we have the opportunity to really do that as opposed to doing so virtually, we should.

What's your favorite "New Business" tool? What gains you the most new opportunity?
Dan Jensen Comment by Dan Jensen on March 8, 2009 at 8:54am
Short and effective:

I recently had an opportunity to train 5 agents in our office who were struggling to find more new contacts for their real estate work.

Their protest had been that they didn't know how to meet people who might at some point in the future, become Clients.

I proposed a challenge to them...Give away a total of 50 of their business cards before our next training session (one week from then).

The immediate question was,"How do we do that?" "Do we just walk up to strangers and hand them a card?"

No, the best way to hand out your biz card, is to ask someone for theirs. Select business owners and managers that you would like to engage as new Clients, and go ask for one of their business cards. Ask them also about their business, and at some point, they will likely ask you for your card. Then, work steadily and reliably to build an information and value-added presence, and over time, you'll likely gain a new Client or two.

I know it's not the hyper-drive Cyber networking world, but I suspect there may be a similar mechanism available here in Cyber World too!

PS: None of the five agents handed out 50 of their cards before the next training. 22 was the most. ALL of the 5 agents encountered a new piece of business and at least a couple of new Clients who appreciated meeting them. Wow, I guess meeting new people and being of service works! Go figure. dj
