Hi Anthony, which of the Ning blogs do you find most reliable for that sort of information?

Kind of interesting to look into the Ning blogs. You can see a general discontent with changes- especially as people monetize their sites and rely on certain features. However, it's not just a vocal majority who are speaking up that represent the magnitude of the reliability and usability issues. I did my due diligence as I researched Ning for my own purposes. I feel pretty comfortable they are going to remain around and I've not been impacted so negatively by their changes. I consider myself a big supporter.

I just don't take for granted the dynamics that things can change and there's more reasonable accomodation to be made for a platform that is free or otherwise looks to compete with the likes of Myspace, Facebook, and Linkedin. You've got to do your research on Ning and make decisions how to work your business around them if you intend to use the platform. My approach is to embrace it and help get the word out.

I'm also a user of Microsoft Office Live Small Business including Live.Spaces and I even used to use MSN groups a long time ago. I actually encountered Ning for the first time when I was dissapointed to find the MSN groups had remain virtually unchanged in over 5 years since I used it last. They recently cancelled MSN groups which was amazing to watch. At least they helped to migrate to Multiply for the larger group functions, but it just goes to show what's possible in this day and age of social networking platforms.

At least with Ning, you can see this is their primary interest. So they are unlikely to shift gears like MSN groups did. Plus, they continue to push the envolope to make Ning a social networking platform of choice. So there's little anxiety for me that they will become so obsolete. In fact, the biggest problem they face is probably that the technology is so far ahead of what most people are prepared to make use of. Chances are, people are underutilizing the platforms and networking opportunities in general. What do you think?

Best,

Anthony

Hi,
It is so good to be part of the Ning family. I have a site which is Health and Wellness oriented but I have also added Sports to this area. After all, the saying "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" applies to business people as well, don't you think?
So you are invited over to My Page to take a look. If you like what you see, I don't mind you telling me. lol

Networking is also a verb! I just broadcast a message to the members of this group. I apologize if the message sent more than once. I am sure other owners will be joining this group later on. I will certainly be recommending people to start their own Ning and am happy to refer them to Sta.rtUp.Biz and the Ning Network Owners group. For those of you who didn't get my message, here it is. Enjoy!

Hi there, as Ning owners/ creators I would hope you are into networking! I have created some FREE networking tools to help I thought worth broadcasting to the entire Ning Network Owners group. First, let me invite you to join my new group on Sta.rtUp.Biz called "Modern Business Exploration". I would like to explore and interview at least one Ning/ Owner per week in order to find some common ground, learn more about your network before establishing a profile on your site (perhaps unwanted/ unmaintainable), and perhaps discuss what our respective networks can offer. I'd like to see other interview pairings start on their own which will save me time in getting to know more about each of you. Additionally, if you want to look into/ join my Ning arealight.ning.com then great. I have designed it as a networking directory/ hub where different networks can shed light on their areas, other users can jump from one network page/ owner to another without all the signup and confusion, and a variety of other free features/ services I think you might find innovative. Of course, I would like my network to be for everybody and every interest including personal, professional, and business. One highlight has to be the idea of networking geographically and across other platforms outside of Ning. Another highlight will hopefully be my efforts to greet you with personal service. This is just one of many projects I am working while going to school and working a job. I understand if you are too busy to participate. However, I do want to make Area Light an online social network of choice. So please stop by to support me and my emerging community. Sta.rtUp.Biz is definitely invited. Enjoy networking!

Best,

Anthony Reardon
