Athletic Scholarships -Missed Opportunity?

It's very likely that there is a scholarship or other kinds of financial aid available for the accomplished student athlete. Each year, thousands of dollars in scholarships, grants and financial aid are available to prospective student-athletes and their families. Even though there are 1700 colleges that offer Collegiate sports, "Marketing" and bringing "Visibility" to the young athlete who may qualify is a challenge.

Athletes who don't reach that "national superstar" status many times get lost in the recruiting process unless they "market" themselves. Smaller, less competitive colleges frequently don't have the budget for high volume recruiting efforts. Unless they know that a talented student athlete exists who is interested in attending their school or university, they can't recruit them - expending their efforts on students in their local geographic areas. It is anticipated that many colleges will reduce their recruiting activities due to the current economic situation

To give young athletes the tools necessary to 'Market" themselves and get the "Visibility" needed a company called "The Next Icon" was established. "The Next Icon" provides a database where students and recruiters/coaches can interact.

An Ideal situation would be where a young athlete could "up load" their stats, game high light films and acedemic achievements. Where coaches through out the United States could have instant access to the young athletes achievements all being done in accordance with the NCAA rules. This scenario would no doubt bring the "Visibility" needed and would help the young athlete market themselves.
