New avatar and some thoughts on planning

After many, many unflattering attempts at getting a decent photo of myself, I finally lucked on it.

I was posting in a long conversation on a sketch thread at http://www.wetcanvas.com where a friend was struggling with eyebrows. I tried to… Continue

How to go from Whiner to Winner!

How do you go from Whiner to Winner?

Change two letters.

No, I am not kidding. One of the reasons I write so well, with confidence and power, is that I learned a long time ago about slant.

Most people are conditioned never to brag. People with immense skill and ability, plenty of experience in their field, even professional writers will freeze up on writing a paragraph of self description. Somewhere in our memories are teachers or parents or clergy who sternly punished anyone wh… Continue

Self Motivation for Working at Home

The up side of working at home, whether for someone else or for yourself, is that you control your physical workspace. You decide how it's decorated. You can choose to have your cat in your lap while you type or hear your kids play in the next room. You can take breaks when you want to or work with the television on in background.

The hard part for many people is having the self discipline to get to work on the thing they're paid to do at home. Especially those who got acculturated to the tradi… Continue

Free Shipping Materials...

I just read an entry on an artist's blog, one that I've been following for a while since I like her daily paintings. Shipping Green is a good entry on something that I've been doing for -- years? Decades?

I got all my packing materials for every move I made in my life but one, going to supermarkets and businesses to get used boxes. Lo, there they were, cardboard boxes in every shape and size. I'd save them up for a few weeks if I knew… Continue

Your Working Environment

This post is about green living, thrift, morale and sanity maintenance.

Most of us here at StartUP.biz either do or want to work at home. The idea of blowing vast amounts of time, effort and money commuting to some place that is totally under the control of other people appointing the time we spend down to what the walls of your office are painted like is irritating or unlivable. It's a huge waste. It's not cost effective to sink that much of our lives into someone else's concern and someone el… Continue

As you know, success is not a matter of money alone, which could be one facet, but more about good family, friendly ties, liking what one does, feeling useful, being healthy in body and spirit...etc... Ami. Cath

Robert,
I loved your very real response to my blog about memory and success. I am another person without the greatest memory. I have never been good at Trivia. I like word games like Scrabble, but not remembering facts. I was good at taking an exam, passing it, and then forgetting very soon afterwards. But the article was about becoming memorable to others, not about remembering details in life.
