Do autoresponders work?

In todays market, do autoresponders really work? Are people getting so much email that they don't really read what they do get?

My problem is getting started with autoresponders. Most of them want to email people first and then have them opt in to receive future mailings. Do you feel this works?

Are there better ways to finding new customers and people interested in your business and services?

I'm new here!

I just love finding new places to meet new people that I can get to know and network with!

Your message was very appreciated! Yes, I am an artist, graphically. :) I majored in glasswork in college & minored in computer art. Now I run a graphic design firm with a specialty in book design.
