A Critical Reason To Buy Black
Sometimes we overlook how critical it is to support Black Businesses. The Black Business Network provides numerous reasons why this support is needed. But when you consider the deeper and more critical reasons why Blacks MUST support Black Businesses, you'll understand that we must adopt a new way of thinking and spending, Now!
An example of the need for us to support our own Black Businesses is as follows:
I am one of the owners of a Black Owned coffee business and I called the business office of our local 7,000+ member church that I attend and contribute to, periodically. It is a predominately White church, with about 35% of it members being Black, and 25% of its members being Hispanic.
The church provides complimentary coffee to its members before Sunday school and between their two services. When I spoke with the Buyer of Services representative on the phone, she was excited about receiving and tasting samples of our products. I assigned another Company co-owner to go to the church and provide the tasting demonstration.
When she (a Black Female) arrived and introduced herself and her title, the two representatives gazed at her with their "jaws dropped", simply refused to accept the samples, and informed her that they were not interested in switching from their current White owned large coffee company.
She returned to meet with me with utter disbelief that she would have been disrespected in that manner. I am not stating that the church as a whole was being discriminatory, but people in important positions at businesses and organizations can be. In this example, had we been allowed to present our products for evaluation and were awarded the contract, we would have immediately needed to hire one to two new employees in our company to meet the church's demand.
That equates to one or two Black people that are currently unemployed, being offered full-time employment........That means that our company would have grown and we might need the services of a "promotional items" supplier like the one listed in the Black Business Network.......That means that we could use the services of a
"medical plan provider" supplier like the one listed in the Black Business Network......and That means that we could use the services of a "shirt/clothing" supplier like the supplier listed in the Black Business Network.
Plainly put, Black companies have a much higher hurdle to jump, just to stay in business, and when we stumble or crawl along, the ripple effect runs long and deep.......Just something to consider when making a choice to Buy Black.
