The idea is a positive activism, which roots itself in the cooperation between otherwise unrelated facets of society. There have been other movements to replace the need for trees. These other movements have resulted in beautiful papers made from hemp (cannabis), flax, kenaf, and bamboo. Although these other 'virgin' fiber papers are not made from trees, they do not account for the vast amount of available paper waste and post-harvest agricultural fibers. It gives us great satisfaction to have helped innovate an economically feasible option for an agro-industrial waste that yearly dumps 230,000 tons of waste in Costa Rica alone. We're challenged by the idea of using exotic tropical fibers as an alternative paper, and inspired by the new textures and tones they afford.

Recycling isn't new, of course. Neither is the use of recycled materials to create designer products. These efforts have been limited by either cost or customer acceptability. The results of processing these exotic tropical fibers are items that both appeal to the consumer, and are viable substitutes for the stationery, school, and office products that can be used every day. The positive ecological impact results from the volumes that are consumed by the use of these exotic paper products. The usability and appeal of the product takes the environmental aspirations out of the realm of idealistic dreams and into the realm of substantially positive environmental impact.
