Bedtime habits that are ruining your sleep

If you’re having trouble falling asleep, you’re in good company. An estimated 65% of Americans said they encounter sleep problems a few nights each week, according to a recent study by the National Sleep Foundation. Sleeping too little is linked with an increased risk for obesity and depression. But before you reach for a sleep aid from the nearest pharmacy, it’s worth reexamining your nighttime routine. Some of your favorite evening rituals could be responsible for that tossing and… Continue

First Week Wrap Up

I am enjoying my first day off since I opened, but also my first day of not going to the shop in about 3 weeks. It's a much needed day. Fortunately, I have a wonderful mother who is willing to work (for free) on days like this. Right now I'm not even paying myself, so I can't imagine having a real employee to pay.

Speaking of money. My first week ended better than it started and yesterday I opened a new business account at the bank across the street. I was able to deposit just $20… Continue

Could you forget your child?

This is long, but I'm not going to apologize!

Here in Dallas, we have yet another story in the news of a child being "forgotten" and left in a locked car to die by their parent in the midst of a string of 100-105 degree days.

1-year-old Markus Anthony Lewis died Sunday afternoon after he was apparently left in the family van by accident on a day when temperatures in North Texas reached 105 degrees. It was the hottest day of the year.

The Lewis family took two… Continue

Priceless Tips to Cure Your Money Phobia

By: Bean Jones

I don't like talking about money--mostly because I always think that I don't have enough that's worth discussing. On top of paying my bills and my college loan, I confess that I tend to splurge on comic books and talking key chains. So, whenever my mother calls and asks me, "Do you have enough money?" (It comes with being the youngest kid, I guess.) I just cut the conversation short by threatening to move back… Continue

Who is SimplyD

Who's this SimplyD gal and why is she online?

Hmm, not sure there's a short easy answer, but I'll start here...

Real name, Denise. Little kids seem to have a hard time saying my name. I just tell them to call me "D" or "Miss D". I've always had a ton of incoming and outgoing email - signing off with "D" on email or in person is faster and easier. I don't get called "Dennis" as much either.

Grew up outside of Detroit in a neighborhood that couldn't get Pizza… Continue

Dealing with my mechanics. Arghhhh.

So Mike my head guy sleeps in today, I called the customer and he was fine that we were going to be half an hour late. But is there anyone out there who sells punching bags so I can work through this. I can't really get mad at him he has been working seven days a week in the sweltering heat and everyone he deals with absolutely loves him. I guess you just have to take the good with the bad huh?

On top of this apparently this job is an exhaust manifold issue which needs a welder to fix, we… Continue
