Marketing 101: Blogging Basics

So you have finally decided to create a blog, so now what do you write about?
Well I find so many MLM’ers and people marketing products want so badly to make their blog all about their product and opportunity, when people really don’t want to read about that.

So what do you make your blog about?

Find something that you are passionate about. What are your hobbies? What do you do for a living? What do you love to talk about?

I know that every MLM’er will tell you that they are passionate about sharing their product with the world and they are obligated to spread the company message of making money from home etc., but imagine if YOU were browsing the Internet and you cam upon a blog that was about a competition product and company.

It may interest you a little and you may read it, but would it REALLY interest you?

You would only read it just so that you could “judge” it! =-)

So do you think the majority of people online want to land on a blog that tries to “pitch” them the whole time?

Of course not!

People want to read things of interest to them so that they can get involved and connect in some way. People are not going to connect with you if all you do is pitch your product and opportunity.

Even though you would like them to, this is NOT going to happen. Granted you may get a couple of people to read it and click the link to your website just out of pure curiosity, but in most cases they will just click and leave.

So again I tell you…write about something that YOU are passionate about, and people will come to your blog who have the very same passion and they will read what you have to say. They may even leave a comment.

Once you start getting more and more readers, you will see what I mean. People will stay on your site and read longer if they are not getting slammed with ad after ad about your company.

Now I DO suggest that you have a link on your blog about your product, but I would have it ONLY be for the product. If you have a great product, then THAT is what you want to promote.

Don’t be promoting your business opportunity on your blog because that also is a huge repellent of readers. How would you like it if you were reading a blog about something that you were really interested in, and you earned a new respect for the writer and you were looking for a health product or whatever your product may be and you see a link to something on the blog and you click it and all of a sudden…right in your face there is a website telling you that you can make $10,000 per month etc.

This may excite YOU but it will turn off about 99% of your readers.

With my blog, you will notice that I have some links to websites on the right hand side of the page. Some of these I get a small kick back from and some of them are just friends that I am trying to help.

But my blog does not just blatantly advertise to you. It is a side note. It should speak to you that I have a different agenda and that is to teach you how to market online.

If my agenda were to get you to sign up to buy leads from my friends, I would have that link in your face the whole time…but see I keep it as a side note so that anyone who visits this site can make their own decision without me trying to talk them into it.

That is how you want to structure your blog. Just write about your passion and throw your links (to the product) as a side note, and you will be very surprised over time, as you build a reader base, just how many times your links are getting clicked.

I have another blog that actually pays me a full time income just from ads being placed in the sidebar. I NEVER force them on people. Remember that…and you will be on your way to having a successful blog!

Ignore that, and you will have no readers to your blog…if you have had a blog for quite some time, and you are using the approach that I am recommending that you avoid…look at your traffic and I can almost guarantee that you either have had ZERO success with it, OR all your readers are already in your business…
