I have a $1,000,000 Question for you.

Can Social Networks Attract more Leads to your Business and how?

If you are trying to figure out if Social Networking /Online Marketing are going to improve your funnel of new business or not, here’s your $0.99 answer --- YES. That’s the good news.

The bad news is in the How. Without getting all techi I’m going to explain it so that a 6 year old can understand and benefit from it. I explain this on a YouTube Video but for those avid readers I can break it down here as well.

Who Do You Think You are?

I know this may appear to be a dumb question but it is absolutely, the one question that you have 9 -15 seconds to answer or you’re done! Here’s why. We are all busy professionals so the attention span for most of us is about 6-9 seconds just to see if we want to listen for the next 30 seconds. So you need to identify yourself and your expertise in milliseconds. That being said, you better identify yourself and your qualifications instantaneously. Think about it: Your toilet is overflowing with raw sewage and you need a plumber NOW. Are you going to waste your time on a guy who is a florist? NOPE! (Now the reality is that he may have over 25 years as a master plumber but you don’t have the luxury of time to explore his resume.) The point is people seek out expert advice not novice advice when available.

Everybody is a Star.
Aston Kutcher recently out produced more subscribers on Twitter than any of the media BIG Dogs i.e. CNN, Walmart, Obama. On the surface this may be no big deal. After all he’s a celebrity right? True, he is a celebrity ……………. But aren’t we all. Social Marketing is all about connections & relevancy. You have to build a following of people interested in your subject matter. As they follow you they also share this info with others. Now in the good old days (7 years ago) this was referred to as Word of Mouth Advertising or Referral Marketing. Anyone can out perform Aston because anyone with a video camera can be a star. Don’t believe me go to YouTube.

Tsung Tsu and the Art of War
I know you are wondering what the heck does a 2000 year old philosopher have to do with Social Marketing? Everything. Chapter 2 - Waging War explains how to understand the economy of war and how success requires making the winning play, which in turn, requires limiting the cost of competition and conflict. You Social marketing Strategy is a Campaign of War. You are competing for the hearts and minds of those needing to hear “The Words” of their Leader. Social Networks are how you disseminate information to your troops and would be followers. It is also how you acquire like minded people who in turn become your agents of influence to their followers, associates, contacts or what have you. IRONICALLY, this is incredibly simple to do and can be as simple as posting an email, video, website or Blog such as this one here. The problem is the enormity and vastness of the Internet. The best strategy is to ask those loyal to you to also send the information to their followers and so on, and so on. By doing this you get exponential exposure and growth in your list.

GoldMail - Drive Revenue

Social Networks and Web 2.0 are your weapons of war.
The purpose of waging war is to win. Winning can come in many forms but in this case the goal is domination so that the Internet sends new users, followers, buyers to you. There are many weapons to use, some better than others. The attraction properties of Social Networks are a key factor in Attraction Marketing but the content must have value and relevance to the reader/consumer in order for it to propagate throughout the Internet. Once you have created great content your next task is to Nuke the net so that those people seeking the content can find you. Only then, with a flood of followers, can you generate more leads from people interested in learning more about YOU, your product, and how it will benefit them in there daily lives. Web 2.0 technologies make the process of connecting and propagating easier than ever by putting content in multiply places more efficiently. By doing this your rankings are optimized and placed higher on search engines like Google, Yahoo and others.

There are many tools one can use I personally use GoldMail, IDL3.0, MLSP and MTF2.0, FREE TRAFFIC PLAN respectively. Both of these will teach anyone the “how to” but you have to be willing to put content together. You also want to use some automated processes that take care of the heavy lifting so that you spend your time talking to people who have self identified them self as BUYERS. So if you ever wondered what is so important about Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Ning and others, "here's your Sign." By leveraging these networks your message will be placed in front of more relevant people who are seeking your solution than ever before. The beautiful part is it only cost you a few minutes a day. Somewhere out there someone is seeking the very thing you are trying to sell, Social Networks help them find YOU.

Business is based on SYSTEMS.

All business is based on systems. Having the right system can make all processes profitable and efficient. Integrating all the various Social Networks together can become tedious and redundant.

I am on Facebook, Twitter, Direct Match and My Space. I have put gentle sales remarks about my business on all of them. I have friends on all of them and those friends have friends but I don't know how many hits (if any) I get on any of them. I have blamed the economy because jewelry is a luxury item and folks are not doing luxury right now. So far - I have not had any sales. Maybe my leads are wrong?

It used to be that "bad press is better then no press", and that is still true today. Any image is better than obscurity. People live and breath branding and name recognition. If you aren't known, you aren't selling. This is the cardinal rule in today's market. This means that you need to get your business KNOWN. Social networks can help with this, by focusing on getting your name, your brand, your product into the sphere of awareness of YOUR potential customers. The more they hear your name, the more likely they are to make the purchase at your business.

Social Networking has been VERY beneficial to our business. We have gotten into contact with numerous artists. Between social networks online and our own networking capabilities in the face to face world we have built a strong customer relationship with many people from across our userbase.

YES!
Word of mouth is the single greatest advertising one can have... the internet and it's plethora of social networks is the pinnacle of word-of-mouth communication. I know of so many people who, having known me online, are more likely to "trust" my webstore as being an "honest" business, not a fly-by-night establishment.

As someone who has been with social media from the beginning--and spent the last ten years managing social media on a group of websites for a major newspaper group, I have to say that I see the power of social media. If, however, you want to use it postivitely, you have to develop a strong, positive, consistent identity online.

Thanks for the comment thus far. They are interesting to say the least. I see a lot about leads and conversions which I'd like to point out is not the topic here. I know there are some very lose terms here i.e. leads. By definition a LEAD is not a name with contact info. A LEADS is someone who has expressed interest or a need for your services or product. In my book you're not a lead until you have identified yourself as such through probing questions. Example: A women walks onto a car lot. Is she a lead? Maybe. Same women looks over several models. Is she a lead? Who knows? Same women opens the door of a new red Ford Mustang and sits in the drivers seat. Is she a lead? Could be. Salesman walks up to women and ask, "Can I help you today miss?" Women replies, "Yes you can. Do you know what time the exprexx bus runs? I've walk 7 blocks in these hill and they are killing me. I just had to find a place to rest for a minute."

This article is not written for the PRO-marketer rather those seeking insight as to how to use, connect and attract those interested in what they offer through Social Networks. Leads capturing, conversions, and attractions are a part of the process but another subject.

Hi, I agree with Charlene and Richard... you can gather leads by the 10's of 1000's from the internet's "Black Hole" (John Milton Fogg) and spend 100's of hours "branding" yourself on social media sites..BUT until you actually show you care about the core values of the person you're talking with, you will not find a business partner. Pick up the phone and show you care is the best way to grow a network marketing home business. Also new people need to be educated and empowered to believe in themselves with a simple primer.

Scott and Charlene are bang on with this one...getting leads is easy - what you DO with the leads can get more challenging.

If you are trying to sell on autopilot, you will have to KEEP getting and converting new leads, because people don't join a company, they join YOU. If no one ever materializes out from behind the auto response system, if no real person appears whom they can relate to, they will not be committed to the relationship, quitting when they become frustrated or the next "golden" opportunity comes along.

You will spend a lot of time recruiting instead of building a strong team.

Thanks for taking the time to write this.
