I have a $1,000,000 Question for you.

Can Social Networks Attract more Leads to your Business and how?

If you are trying to figure out if Social Networking /Online Marketing are going to improve your funnel of new business or not, here’s your $0.99 answer --- YES. That’s the good news.

The bad news is in the How. Without getting all techi I’m going to explain it so that a 6 year old can understand and benefit from it. I explain this on a YouTube Video but for those avid readers I can break it down here as well.

Who Do You Think You are?

I know this may appear to be a dumb question but it is absolutely, the one question that you have 9 -15 seconds to answer or you’re done! Here’s why. We are all busy professionals so the attention span for most of us is about 6-9 seconds just to see if we want to listen for the next 30 seconds. So you need to identify yourself and your expertise in milliseconds. That being said, you better identify yourself and your qualifications instantaneously. Think about it: Your toilet is overflowing with raw sewage and you need a plumber NOW. Are you going to waste your time on a guy who is a florist? NOPE! (Now the reality is that he may have over 25 years as a master plumber but you don’t have the luxury of time to explore his resume.) The point is people seek out expert advice not novice advice when available.

Everybody is a Star.
Aston Kutcher recently out produced more subscribers on Twitter than any of the media BIG Dogs i.e. CNN, Walmart, Obama. On the surface this may be no big deal. After all he’s a celebrity right? True, he is a celebrity ……………. But aren’t we all. Social Marketing is all about connections & relevancy. You have to build a following of people interested in your subject matter. As they follow you they also share this info with others. Now in the good old days (7 years ago) this was referred to as Word of Mouth Advertising or Referral Marketing. Anyone can out perform Aston because anyone with a video camera can be a star. Don’t believe me go to YouTube.

Tsung Tsu and the Art of War
I know you are wondering what the heck does a 2000 year old philosopher have to do with Social Marketing? Everything. Chapter 2 - Waging War explains how to understand the economy of war and how success requires making the winning play, which in turn, requires limiting the cost of competition and conflict. You Social marketing Strategy is a Campaign of War. You are competing for the hearts and minds of those needing to hear “The Words” of their Leader. Social Networks are how you disseminate information to your troops and would be followers. It is also how you acquire like minded people who in turn become your agents of influence to their followers, associates, contacts or what have you. IRONICALLY, this is incredibly simple to do and can be as simple as posting an email, video, website or Blog such as this one here. The problem is the enormity and vastness of the Internet. The best strategy is to ask those loyal to you to also send the information to their followers and so on, and so on. By doing this you get exponential exposure and growth in your list.

GoldMail - Drive Revenue

Social Networks and Web 2.0 are your weapons of war.
The purpose of waging war is to win. Winning can come in many forms but in this case the goal is domination so that the Internet sends new users, followers, buyers to you. There are many weapons to use, some better than others. The attraction properties of Social Networks are a key factor in Attraction Marketing but the content must have value and relevance to the reader/consumer in order for it to propagate throughout the Internet. Once you have created great content your next task is to Nuke the net so that those people seeking the content can find you. Only then, with a flood of followers, can you generate more leads from people interested in learning more about YOU, your product, and how it will benefit them in there daily lives. Web 2.0 technologies make the process of connecting and propagating easier than ever by putting content in multiply places more efficiently. By doing this your rankings are optimized and placed higher on search engines like Google, Yahoo and others.

There are many tools one can use I personally use GoldMail, IDL3.0, MLSP and MTF2.0, FREE TRAFFIC PLAN respectively. Both of these will teach anyone the “how to” but you have to be willing to put content together. You also want to use some automated processes that take care of the heavy lifting so that you spend your time talking to people who have self identified them self as BUYERS. So if you ever wondered what is so important about Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Ning and others, "here's your Sign." By leveraging these networks your message will be placed in front of more relevant people who are seeking your solution than ever before. The beautiful part is it only cost you a few minutes a day. Somewhere out there someone is seeking the very thing you are trying to sell, Social Networks help them find YOU.

Business is based on SYSTEMS.

All business is based on systems. Having the right system can make all processes profitable and efficient. Integrating all the various Social Networks together can become tedious and redundant.

I have had minimal success with these but have read stories of some who have done really well with it, I think the key is to think long term and to use it in such a way as to not be obnoxious, build relationships with people, be genuinely interested in them so you don't drive them.

I built a large network of contacts at ryze.com and ecademy.com then brought the contacts to linkedin where people do find me when they are looking for a CPA in the New York-New Jersey area. I added myspace, facebook, twitter and the ning sites along the way. Merge that with the face to face, in person networking as one complements the other.

Even someone extremely busy as myself finds social networking helpful and articles such as yours both erudite and useful. Leonard you are to be congratulated as I also congratulate Startup-Biz for their outstanding site.

As I am about to don my Chef's hat for our 4th of July BBQ I wish everyone a safe, happy and thoughtful Independence day. We should all remember how and why our great country was founded. These were rebels with a good cause, as opposed to the rebels then and now with evil and hurtful causes. Remember their principles: freedom, good government, low taxes, minimal interference in commercial endeavors. The workers, farmers and small business people were the engines of our growth. This continues to this very day. It is you the small entrepenuer with you grit and new ideas who will continue to make America prosper. Don't ever forget that. We must all hold ourselves and our representatives to a higher standard, cutting waste, inefficiancy and corruption from our midst. Those government officials and elected representatives (of both parties) that maintain the highest standard of this and who are venal, unstatesmanlike and crooked must be thrown out. Maybe if we had term limits in cognress we could eliminate those who's only goal is to get reelected, no matter what the cost to their constituents.

Have a good one!

Good information-
In our business, I prefer links to leads. Front page is a must for e commerce retailers. And with Google, Yahoo, and Bing theme links are very important for relevancy. Social Networking are forms of links, because the groups are like minded in a general sense. horizontal portals. Groups inside of groups are even more targeted like a keyword phrase instead of just a keyword. keyword phrases are used to dial in a target market.

I stand sceptical to the markeitng value of social networks. But a I think it is essential to have a god pressence on the web for any business that seeks to keep it´s customers. A good example is Apples website that pumps out information, news, downloads to their customer base. But even that good example is rather low on interactivity. And I think there is more to do for keeping in touch with your custmorerdatabase by email than today´s rather boring repeats of offerings.

Glad I read this article and all the comments, info, info, info...knowledge is power!

Whether or not you agree with articles you read, it's what you do with the information that's important. It may not be anything you need now, but can use later...

I use Twitter daily, LinkedIn & FaceBook often and I've only gotten clients from my website, CraigsList and referrals. BUT, I continue to use Twitter (cuz it's fun) and the others because they're perfect for staying in contact with other VA's and our industry.

Thanks again for sharing!

Social Media and social networking works for those that 'know how to use it" and "use it well". You have to attract first, then engage before you can look to succeed.
To attract you must consistently offer reliable and usable information. Something that is of interest to me. Something that would make me stay on........on reading!
You then have to get them sufficiently comfortable enough to enter a one-to-one dialogue with you (in person or via any of the many communication tools).
This part is CRUCIAL and 95% of marketers don't do this or do it well. YOU HAVE TO SORT.

It is not enough capture a leads contact details.
What is the leading looking for?
Why are they looking for? Can I work with this person?
Can they work with me?
Many of us are so happy to get a lead, ecstatic to get an email response, speak to them on the phone or better sit down eyeball-to-eyeball with them (if and where possible), THAT WE FORGET TO ASK THE TOUGH QUESTIONS!
As a consequence, we get hot leads that suddenly turn cold, enthusiastic new affiliates that quit after 1month or stop following the agreed goals after a short while.
We should concentrate on finding that one person per year who is FULLY engaged and help them find their one person. In a short all involved will get their dreams.
And YES social networking can help......but there are many more ways to skin as cat!
Good post Leonard and Great! Great!! responses.

It is not enough to belong to a social network like this one and not
