General facts

• Solar Energy is better for the environment than traditional forms of energy.
• Solar energy has many uses such as electricity production and heating of water through photovoltaic cells and directly for drying clothes.
• Solar energy can also be used to heat swimming pools, power cars, for attic fans, calculators and other small appliances.
• It produces lighting for indoors or outdoors.
• Solar Energy is becoming more and more popular. The worldwide demand for Solar Energy is currently greater than supply.

Facts about Solar Energy usage:

• Solar Energy is measured in kilowatt-hour. 1 kilowatt = 1000 watts.
• 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) = the amount of electricity required to burn a 100 watt light bulb for 10 hours.
• According to the US Department of Energy, an average American household used approximately 866-kilowatt hours per month costing them $70.68.
• About 30% of our total energy consumption is used to heat water.

Sun related Facts about Solar Energy

• Sunlight travels to the earth in approximately 8 minutes from 93,000,000 miles away, at 186,282 miles per second.
• The sun is also the main source of non-renewable fossil fuels (coal, gas and petroleum), which began life as plants or animals whose energy came from the sun millions of year ago.
• Solar energy is responsible for weather patterns and ocean currents.
• Clouds, pollution and wind can prevent the sun's rays from reaching the earth.

Does it help? No. But it doesn't hurt the environment like other sources, so, it is better.

Of course it helps. It is a renewable source of energy that is not a pollutant.

I find it strange that living in Malaysia that more use is not made of solar energy. they are even taliking of developing Nuclear power, when they have a huge free powersource overhead. I am sure the cost of subsiding homes to provide solar panels will be cheaper than going nuclear and more environmental friendly.

Yes, Solar energy helps the environment and helps live more softly on the earth. No matter where you stand on whether or not global warming is "real" - I think you can agree that it is better for us to find safe, clean alternatives to fossil fuel.

For an excellent book on viable energy alternatives, a new one is coming out called Viable Energy Now by jacek Popiel. His site is http://ViableEnergyNow.com

Sure it does! Anything that takes the place of fossil burning energy sources helps the environment.

Funny you should ask, I was on the Jerry Butler blogtalkradio show and that was the topic for tonight 7/8/09.
Solar panels would be a great investment and as a result would take the load off of the grid that is several years old and soon to break down. Can you imagine not having lights, use of your computer, heat, cool air, or telephone during a power outage? Solar energy is the...Solution!
As a matter of fact, you get credits for utilizing solar energy and the savings are tremendous. Go to www.dsireusa.org, you will see a map of the USA click on your state and do the math!

One advantage is the cost to the planet, zero when well applied.
Solar energy is by far, the most clean and productive source of non-costy energy.
You use glasses and garbige to heat the pipes, you get free heat from the water... All you have to do is to step up the temperatures and you have huge amounts of infinit rays for every need on Earth, mostly.
Direction to follow, indeed, in order to fully acchieve the akcnowledge of controlling it, a task to be done, despite of the impossibility by now.

Yes and NO, it helps the environment by utilizing a natural source being sun light but the use of and environmentally friendly disposal of battery cells is the main concern
