Anyone who's in business for themselves should be in search of new ways to generate a massive amount of income. Once a person has that figured out, their money worries should be over. RIGHT?

WRONG...because people can't reach their goal alone...we all need each other in order to strive. It doesn't matter how many referrals you get as an independent business owner, you'll always have to work to get paid, and that's why I always lean towards the "B" quadrant model that Robert Kiyosaki talks about in his book, "The Rich Dad Cash Flow Quadrant." He explains that there are four (4) quadrants that people fall in: "E" (Employee), "S" (Self-Employed), "B" (Business Owner), and "I" (Investor). Kiyosakis says that each of these quadrants represent the way that a person earns their income. Different skills, personalities, and mind sets are necessary depending upon which quadrant a person represents.

LEVERAGING MY TIME WILL ALWAYS BE KEY FOR ME...

And, by leveraging time, I mean utilizing the services of others. If the same applies for you, and the services of other people is what we all need in order to maintain a successful business, then how do we get people to not only join us in business, but want to continue on in business with us? That's easy, and I'll share the answer with you below.

But for now, I'm sure that most of us have heard at least one of the below sayings as it relates to the benefits of getting involved with a Network Marketing company.

1. work whenever you want, from wherever you want!
2. being home to see your children grow up!
3. having more time to spend with your family!
4. take a 20 second commute to work!
5. having more time and money to take family vacations!
6. no more rush hour traffic!
7. tax savings!

Who do you know that wouldn't want any one of these benefits? So, if there are so many great benefits associated with getting involved in a home-based business, why isn't everyone joining us in business? Sad, but true, there's a lot of people who may have a desire for these benefits, who just don't believe that they have what it takes to be successful in a business of their own. Although, all of the above benefits sound great, people need to know that they can do what it takes to be successful.

Working in corporate America for 20 years; working as an independent real estate agent for 2 years; and now working for a small business owner for the past 2 years, I believe that I know what it takes to make a business flourish, and also what it takes to make a business crumble.

Below is my list...please feel free to share yours with me as well.

LEADERSHIP

Without it, your business is destined to FAIL! Every successful business, be it a large corporation, or a small business owned operation, should have someone in place who knows about the everyday operations of the department they oversee (corporations), or the company as a whole (small businesses). When the department or company is left to run itself, it's doomed for failure. And, the same rule applies when you operate your own home-based business. You will have to know as much about the company you represent in order to lead/direct others to where they should go to get answers. As the CEO of a company, a person should have leadership qualities, because they will be looked to for answers.

TRAINING
The number one reason why people don't apply to work at specific companies is because they don't have the required skills. For example, unless you went to school to become a doctor, you wouldn't apply for that position. And, unless you went to school to become an engineer, you wouldn't apply for that position either. Not saying that doctors and engineers are special people, because they aren't. It's the profession that one chooses to pursue that gives them the opportunity to apply for a specific position. I wouldn't apply for an accounting position, because I know nothing about the field, but if I went to school to learn about it, and then get all of the certification, then I'd qualify. For now, I'll stick with what I know, and that's people and real estate. And I only know these things because I've studied them.

When it comes to Network Marketing the playing field is wide open for everyone to join us in business. So, if that's the case, why don't more people join us in business? It's because they don't believe that they'll be able to succeed, which is why training is so important. Training allows a person to grasp a concept and understand exactly what they need to do to be successful. I remember my very first job working at the telephone company as a 611 repair clerk. When I was hired for that job, I knew nothing about it, but prior to taking my first call the company prepared me for it, by way of classroom training. New hires weren't left to figure out things as they came up. We knew exactly what to say and do when encountered with customer complaints.

SUPPORT and GUIDANCE
Once training has been implemented, support and guidance is the next step to a person being successful. Although classroom training is very important, it’s not all that’s required. If you want a “newbie” to progress in their new venture, then actual hands-on training is vital. It’s wonderful to sit in a classroom, or in front of a computer, but it's nothing like jumping in getting your feet wet. We need to be on three-way calls with our new people, and doing whatever it takes, until they feel comfortable.

For me it wasn't until I took my first few calls as a 611 repair clerk that I began to feel comfortable with what I was doing. But, it wasn't too long after that, that I was able to overlap and do more than one thing at a time while taking customer reports, but it took time. Even though we'd just finished our classroom training, we weren't just thrown on the phones in hopes that what we learned in the classroom would stick, because it wouldn't have. That would have been a disaster waiting to happen. We were still under the guidance of our instructor, who was there for support. That person was there to observe and make sure that we had our questions answered.

And, that's the same thing that we need to do with our "newbies." Just because someone has joined us in business, doesn't mean that we can sign them up and leave them. What we learn in the classroom is theory, but it's not until we actually get out in the field and begin to practice, and ask questions, and make a few mistakes, that it actually begins to come together.

FOLLOW-UP
Not only do you need to follow-up, but you need to follow through and make sure that you're providing the support that your “newbie” needs. Now that they've gotten the training, support and guidance, they're now on their own, but they need to know that they're not alone.

Did you know that everyone who has an interest in your opportunity, but hasn't signed up yet has one major concern. And that is, CAN I DO IT? Before anyone will consider joining you in business, the CAN I DO IT factor, must be addressed in such a way that a prospect believes that they can do what you're doing. And, until they believe they can, benefits don't have much meaning for them in these economic times. Because people like simple, as good as the product or service may be, people aren't willing to step out and be courageous, when the security of working for someone else is much more appealing.

While most people focus on recruiting, we know that REAL success is based on people duplicating the efforts of those who have come before them. The way that you introduce your prospect to your business is often the key reason whether they join your business or not. In order for people to join you in business, they must feel comfortable presenting the opportunity to others.

IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW GREAT YOUR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY IS, IF NO ONE IS JOINING YOU! Please remember, that based on how the opportunity was presented to them will make a person believe that's the same way they will need to approach others. People need to feel comfortable knowing they can do what you do, and really believe they can be successful, or they will never join you in business. The majority of people will opt for security every time.

What people are looking for is a vehicle to help them succeed! Duplication is the key, and your business must be easy to duplicate.

I like your idea that success is based on people duplicating the efforts of those who have come before them....I often say why reinvent the wheel? when working on projects. You make some great points here Necole. Thanks!

Your article made more sense to me , encapsulating the essence of working online. I was trained by a great lady to sell Pre-paid legal services back in 2001 being the first in my entire region before it launched. I was taught about upline,downline,3way calling, product endorsement and then began feverishly spending the majority of my time online using lead generators and calling people all over the US~ I got a few in my downline which encouraged me to press on. I did for some time til it wore me out~ I gave up and also gave up my PPL membership as I found you can talk by phone to almost any lawyer free to get the amount of assistancde PPL was to provide~Since then I shied away from MLM's and their ilk.
My daughter & her husband got caught up in a few and devoted 2-3 years devoted doing as their mentor told them and occasionally had a sale- a breakthrough - that whet their appetites to continue on so that they too would one day be rich like their mentors...3 yrs later they wore out~! hype sells hype and some mlm's offer little more than hype to which you have to sell it to try and break even with they hype you bought~!

I now stick to my artwork and printing it and selling it anywhere I can online. I opened a network and invited other artists to join and post their art for sale as well. I blog it and advertise and even am running a CONTEST, GIVING AWAY SOME OF MY ART - on a comments contest on my site that hopefully will lead to exposure and more sales of my artwork BUT I dont push anyone to buy anything nor make elusive promises with catches.. I always hated catches and gimmicks~! so I dont play them on my people..

There are those I ultimately seek which would be 'art buyers' as I dont want to buy anything online but I want to sell. I tried buying to sell finding it is me just buying and still not selling, yet there are so many gimicks and brainwashing and 3 ways and lead generations and yadda yadda yadda- all the needy giving alms to those who appear to be ahead of the game-so the rich continue to get richer and the rest of us keep struggling along looking for elusive answers with one self help secret of my success gimmick after another- only the originator makes money ultimately..:) Ave

The key to successfull business is your business setup and good management, which will enable to run the business in your absence. A good setup means the basic infrastructure like good staff, office, required to run the business with the best avaliable technology. No doubt that whatever business you are into dedication, quality and service are of most important without which it is difficult to make to get great success in business. Always try to keeps your overheads as low as possible, it does not mean to avoid necessary expenses.

There's one thing I saw implied but not outright spoken and that is Persistence...

Words to live by:

"PERSISTENCE...

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.

Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination are omnipotent.

... written by Calvin Coolidge"

I have seen many highly educated entrepreneurs that dwell on procrastination as if waiting for something to happen will make it come to life; sadly those who indulge in this mindset ultimately fail.

You can take the horse to the water but you can’t make it drink; only persistence and determination will make your dreams become a reality. I have worked with many entrepreneurs that consider themselves successful because they pursued an education and paid for the launch of their all powerful business; the business failed because they accomplished their goal launching the business… they did not however see it through and set new goals planning for the future. It’s imperative that anyone who goes into business keeps on top of the newest trends relevant to their industry. It’s always a work in progress and it takes persistence to keep the ball rolling.

So if you have the education, the experience, the money, the exposure and the location your efforts are fruitless if you don’t see it through. Make goals and keep making goals; when you run out of goals... you go out of business.

I'm a wedding/event planner coordinator. I think one of the most important things to success is customer service. I hear so many times, how surprised people are when the call my company and I actually answer! We've gotten so used to machines, it's nice when a person is on the other end to be of assistance.
