Is Auto--surfing cheating? Well, some manual traffic exchange owners and other people think so. In auto surfing, pages go by in a set amount of seconds - 15, or 10 for example and your page gets shown in return. It's just like manual surfing with one big difference - you don't have to click on anything to advance to the next page. That means that you aren't necessarily looking at someone's page when it appears.

Some auto surfs, like Drag Bus Hits try to encourage views by having a game show up in the middle, everything stops till you play the game or click the next link to continue. You don't know when the game will appear so you have to keep checking to see what's happening. Other auto surfs, like Fast Creeper, have links you can click after a certain number of pages that give you bonus credits. If you aren't looking at the page when the link appears, you miss out on the extra credits.

Some manual exchanges that give you credits for views will not count credits gained from auto-surfs. Other ones, like Traffic Era, don't mind and allow those hits to be credited to you.

Do people pay any attention to auto-surfs? It depends. In general, less attention than you would to a manual surf site, but still some attention for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, I and others use auto surfs when we are tired of clicking and just want to sit back and let the pages go. On days like that, I have signed up for things I have seen go by on the auto-surf and I have talked to others who have as well. Sometimes, I am paying attention because I am checking to make sure it is running smoothly, or looking for a verification link for extra credits, or seeing if a stop page or game page is present. When I am looking at it then, it is just the same as any other surf, if the page catches my eye I will take a look at it and if it doesn't, I won't. Sometimes, people will be manual surfing a few sites and also have an auto running. Since most surfers now use tabbed browsing, as they click through the tabs, they see the sites on the auto-surf. Again, I have signed up for things on the auto-surf doing that and have talked to others who have as well.

So, no, I don't think it is cheating. But I do think a little common sense is in order. You will have people who use the auto-surfs who pay little or no attention to your page. There will be others who will sporadically pay attention. So relying on that as a primary advertising method doesn't make any sense. In a situation like Traffic Era, where you get credit when it is shown and having a high showing of your page matters there for various reasons, it makes sense to use it. Or if you just need to drive a lot of traffic to your page, auto-surfs can help. To use it as a supplemental method also makes sense. For example, I am running an auto-surf now as I am typing this blog. My computer isn't busy doing a lot of things when I am doing typing and I don't need the bandwidth for other things, so it makes sense to run it. And am I checking it? Absolutely!
