What Will You Do To Improve Your Advertising?

Advertising is the lifeblood of any business, whether it's online or offline.

All advertising isn't created equal! Some advertising sends in a trickle of traffic, others are a little better, some don't deliver at all, but the good news is that there are a lot of advertising avenues both online and offline that delivers what they promise.

As an advertiser you need to identify those advertising avenues that delivers what they promise, then advertise consistently in the advertising source you've chosen.

Why consistent advertising is necessary

Consistent advertising is necessary because people are inundated with advertising. Every day you see over 3,000 ads that seem to come at you from every direction. You see ads on T.V., in the newspaper, on your computer, billboards, on vehicles, on the windows and in the rest rooms of various businesses. You hear them on the radio as you commute to work, or travel.

How do you get through the "jungle of jingling jargon" to your audience with your message?

You need to advertise consistently wherever you choose to advertise! Work diligently to find what advertising works for you. Then advertise consistently to receive the greatest return on your investment.

Get Attention! Whatever it takes, use a "dancing frog" to gain attention, whatever it takes! Look what the gecko has done for insurance. Of maybe a "cave man" is that unique attention-getter you need to draw attention to your advertising message.

Get creative, think outside the box, or hire someone who can come up with that unique idea that differentiates your business or web site from all the rest.

Make advertising priority #1 for your business!

Too many times business and web site owners get too busy with daily tasks to take significant time to plan their advertising to make it more effective, or to advertise at all!

Do you delay advertising for the following reasons?

* You haven't decided to advertise this month, because advertising and all it entails, takes time away from running your business
* You've decided to use your money for advertising to pay other bills
* You postpone the appointments you set to meet with account executives who want to meet with you, because you just can't face making that decision on where to advertise
* You don't want to think about what to put in your advertisement.

Business and web site owners procrastinate for all the "excuses" above and many more.

Don't play "Barney Fife" and shoot yourself in the foot with "excuses", arm yourself with all the reasons you should advertise then spend enough time to plan well, or get someone that is well qualified to consult with you or hire someone to do it for you. Advertising is that important!

Hit your target market with the best advertising you can find, then keep hitting your audience like a boxer in training with that old "onesy twosy" punch, ad after ad, until customers are banging at your door like good "crazed" shoppers should be shopping.

Circulation is important but only if you are reaching your target market. An even better choice for your advertising is circulation that is constantly increasing.

Make your decision now that you will make your advertising priority #1 for your business!

Success in the fastlane is that you slow down enough to advertise smart, by thinking intently about where, when and how often you will advertise. Then just do it!

Keep that "life blood" of advertising flowing to keep your business growing!

Hi Joan,

My form of advertising is simply "getting myself in front of as many people as possible in as many creative ways as possible so that those people who are looking for what I have to offer can find me."

I'm not in the convincing business; I am in the relationship business. My goal is to create a presence online to attract those who are in alignment with what I am offering.

It is a joy to connect with those who are already looking for me.

I have a fantastic blogging system that I use (with 2 blogs) to get indexed in the search engines quickly and organically (often within 2 hours), so that is certainly a great benefit.

I offer free attraction marketing tips here: http://LOAMarketingTips.com

Many blessings for your prosperity and well being.

Being involved in internet marketing for over 15 years, I am in favor of reactive and not proactive advertising.

Proactive, which includes email marketing, banner ads, or marketing posts to social networking sites, is mostly disregarded and has a higher cost than Reactive. Eye tracking studies show that ads are scanned only briefly and in passing and content is the focus of most visits.

Reactive marketing produces a higher ROI, (Return On Investment), which is important for most small / medium business that cannot afford to commit cash or resources for a limited return.

Reactive Marketing, (RM), includes SEO, (Search Engine Optimization), which should be your primary marketing focus, having the highest ROI.
RM also includes developing credibility and building PR (Page Rank). Social networking is a primary force here.

When a site is accessed through a search, you have developed a certain level of authority.
SEO is the path to this. Develop locally first then expand globally, if needed.
Even if your product is global, develop for the local market first.

Once your site is well placed in the SERPs, (Search Engine Result Pages), and your conversions maximized, (More SEO), then it is time to turn to link building and social network marketing.

The greatest thing about RM is that when it is done properly, the potential clients are pre-qualified. They have arrived on your site BECAUSE they are interested. It takes little more to convert.

Joan,

Also I agree that advertising is useful, for a company like mine, it is not likely to work. Software companies as a service need a lot of direct contact to move forward. Most of the people who would call would say they have a $1k or less budget when the advertising would cost more like $20k/mo. to be in the right place. Not worth it!

Thank you
Alexis

Great stuff guys!! One of the things I do is pick few of my online social websites and Advertise the heck out of my company. I`m now starting to get buyers and customers asking me more questions about my company. One of the other things I`m going to start doing again is getting out and network and meet new people in business, and doing alot of face to face socializing again. But you must! advertise everyday if you want to have your business to continue to grow. Now go out and make something happen today people! LETS GO!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Joan! It seems as though we all choose to do other things with our advertising dollars, as you said. My business, On the Mark Writing, writes press releases for businesses all over the world. OMW works with a PR firm that will promote a business on the web through news release submissions and even a podcast or radio interview on blogtalkradio.

I agree that it is imperative that a business advertises in slow economic times. With a shoestring budget, I think that it is most important for a business to create conversations with others through commenting on blogs posted by others or by writing a blog of its own.

I do a variety of advertising. Floats in local parades, free online ads, business cards, flyers, professional networking group, freelance writting, health newsletter, etc. Looking forward to reading your handbook and see what else I can implement.

Here's one of the sites I advertise: www.MomIsTheBest.com

I currently send out emails to my customers directly from my store site (zen cart) but they're just text and barely effective. I'd love to do something prettier but the budget is currently way tight. I have a limited amount of time for promotion, so a big campaign or lots of labor intensive stuff won't do it for me. Also, though, I do have online message boards and design gallery for my customers as well as a store and a personal blog and lots of online presence in some of the social network groups online. I was pretty surprised when I googled myself (Theresa Merkling) and saw so many hits... the toughest part is keeping everything current. Always looking for ways to improve. BTW, when my customers do order, I always send store promotionals like a pen with our info and a little token of appreciation as well as a sticker with the store info for re-orders etc.

Great post. I started consistently advertising in November of last year when I took on a more active role in updating my website. It has added more clientele. I checked out the affordable advertising website and it has a lot of good information. I try to take advantage of all the free and "cheap" advertising I can and I am selective in paying for advertising as I can't pay for every advertising opportunity that comes my way.

Most important is to track where people are coming from so that you can keep doing what works and stop doing what does not work.
