We as women have a need to express ourselves. Many of us write, sing, give motivating speeches, and possibly dance but there is one area that EACH and EVERY ONE of us use to express ourselves daily and that has to do with our outward appearance. Over the years fashion has become the tool for outward expression. Looking back we can see the times of our lives being played out in our fashion. The crimped hair, pegged pants, and BIG bangs that carried me through middle school and the overly wide legged pants that were reminiscent of the 70s that I wore in High School. Now, I have not gone through quite as many extreme fashion changes as some of my predecessors but I do understand how we as women have a desire to express ourselves and as a result, whether subconscious or conscious, it shows through the fashions that we wear.
When it comes to fashion there is so much we could talk about that it almost becomes a blur. When did fashion begin? Well like most things it started from necessity. Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, after Eve partook of the forbidden fruit, her and Adam realized their nakedness and decided that fig leaves suddenly seemed like a good idea. Then started the chain of events. Fig leaves turned to loin clothes, and loin clothes turned into various other items as new materials were discovered and needlework talent increased.
Now, looking back on your own experiences, have you ever walked in to the grocery store and thought, “I don’t need a basket, I am just going to get one or two things” and as you start shopping your hands suddenly seem to have shrunk and you are doing a balancing act just to get to the cash register? If so then you can obviously appreciate the value of a container or even a bag. Our ancestors believed this was a good idea as well and so we can see from history and our own experiences, handbags, like clothing, have originated from necessity. (Especially with the average woman who carries: a wallet, loose change, medicine, various types of lip balm/gloss, keys, cell phone, mail, receipts, credit cards, tissues, etc.)
In summary we have established that FASHION is an outward expression of who we are and that a BAG of some sort is a must have for the average woman. So I guess the next question is what type of bag works for you, your personality, and your lifestyle?
