youtube

Until YouTube came along, there was no social networking site that promoted user content in the form of video. This niche has catapulted YouTube to the forefront as a leading social networking site. Because of its ease of use and popularity, YouTube has become a launch pad for many business viral marketing campaigns as well.

Do you have a digital camcorder or webcam? If so, you can make a video that can be shared online. People like to see what others are doing. There is no better way to allow others to do just that, than through video media. YouTube is the largest generator of user video content on the web.

Businesses have found a way to use YouTube to increase their bottom line as well. Videos are a great to head up a viral marketing campaign. What is viral marketing you might be asking? We do it all the time and many don't even realize it.

When someone shares a good review of a product with us and we go out and buy it, that's viral marketing. Essentially, it is word of mouth advertising. It also works on the negative. Poor reviews lead to lower sales of certain products. On the Internet, negative statements spread like wildfire.

Here are three strategies that we use to promote our sites via Youtube:

1. Have keywords for your particular business in your video titles for people to find your videos. This video is called Myspace Marketing: Truths Revealed! This video is placed on a website right next to the link for the ebook.

2. Have your website viewable on the screen several times throughout the video.

Here is a Youtube video of one of my fitness friends, Holly Rigsby, that is doing a phenomenal job of promoting her product via video. She has a great niche, Busy Moms Fitness Workouts, and what a better way to distribute your videos virally than via Youtube.

3. Post your video on Facebook and Myspace. The great thing about Facebook is that all of your friends see every move that you make in the status section. Myspace bulletins are great areas to post your videos as well.

YouTube provides opportunities for businesses to market their business in a viral fashion. With high quality video and a bit of social networking around the site, traffic and sales will benefit.

If you haven't begun advertising your business via video, YouTube is the perfect place to start. It doesn't cost a dime to put your business in front of millions, but can produce a return that maybe even you could never have imagined.

I started using youtube to share our Tae Kwon Do videos and then added pets, etc. It was great fun when people started making comments on them.

Then I decided I needed to learn to make some videos for my business. This was done on another user name of course. I love sharing these on Youtube and Google videos.

Good idea, thank you for sharing,
Donna

Quality IS important - but the CONTENT is more important. I am a bigger advocate of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). I learned the technique on YouTube. In fact, the pioneers of this technique used their webcam or their camcorder and are still being used today.

You can also make a YouTube via with a voice over with a PowerPoint Presentation.

Many ways..........and it is on my list for January 2009!

Thanks for the reminder!

I recently purchased a webcam to see if this can enhance my business ventures. I will be trying soon to upload a video to YouTube, especially since I have just launched a new venture! I hope you'll all see me on YouTube very soon, and thanks for the motivation to to it sooner rather than later.

Hi Naomi,

I am new to start up biz and find this site really interesting. I know about youtube but really I didn't think about this site as a place for business people. I am in the Real Estate business and I think you gave me a really good idea. I can show places of Mauritius, where I live, where people from around the world may sea our beaches and blue lagoon and either come to invest in properties or spend their vacations here. Thanks for your simple but very useful idea. Clarel

Like all other nonfiction, the best videos on YouTube are niche videos. They have a specific topic of interest to a subgroup, they're not trying to reach everyone all at the same time. They have content that's valuable in itself and would be worth bookmarking or favoriting.

My specialty is art lessons in oil pastels -- so when I get my site running I expect to do some video lessons -- for something like that, ten minutes (the allowed length of one video) is optimum. It shouldn't be so short that it's disappointing and doesn't teach anything, but not so long that you might as well buy the DVD.

I've planned for some time to make some oil pastels videos. Quality matters a lot. Make sure your camcorder or webcam is in focus. Compose the scene. Make sure the lighting is decent so that you can see what's going on. On the sound track, music alone can be distinctly annoying. Try to narrate some of it. Rehearse your narration so there's no starts and stops or stuttering -- if you ever took drama, you know it helps to rehearse.

It's often better in creating video to do it over several times and pick the best one than to just run with what the first one came out with. Also please edit the videos. Long pauses, bad pans, the point where the camera jiggled, these don't need to be there for a professional presentation.

You can also use text captions effectively. Just don't cover the main action with them. Run them over the background and be sure there are either broad light areas for dark text to have enough contrast or broad dark areas for light text to have contrast. Everything that matters in a web page matters in a video too.

Good luck and enjoy doing your videos. I know I will.
