The lost art of pampering

Why is it that we have invested countless dollars in creating time-saving devices and methods (online ordering, drive-thru windows, call-ahead seating) only to use that alleged “spare time” doing more of the “gotta-do’s” and hardly any “wanna-do’s”? What’s the use of saving time if we can’t enjoy the dividends? I have frequently been told, “you try to do too much.” The correct phrasing here should be, “you have too much to do.” Think of your life as a glass of water. You pour off a little bit t… Continue

What’s even better than organic cotton?

We’ve all come to realize that organic is a healthy choice. It means the product is free of chemical additives — untainted by pesticides — and produced with more eco-friendly care. So, if you blend the beauty of organic growing with the natural wonders of pure cotton, it must be the best choice for a towel in this green world, right? Not necessarily. If you’re thinking sustainable, take a look a bamboo instead of organic cotton. A bamboo towel, for example, can last through 300 washes. The life… Continue

Different shades of green

There has been a lot of talk about the eco-friendly nature of bamboo fiber. I’ve told everyone who reads my blog about this incredible fabric. It has amazing characteristics, like softness, absorbency, fast drying, and anti-bacterial. These are all great things, right? Well, I have to tell you that not all bamboo towels and robes are created equal. The manufacturing process used in some plants is not as eco-friendly as it could (and should be). I have read some horror stories about processing p… Continue

Doing something right feels really good.

When I first heard about bamboo as a fiber, all I could imagine were those “good luck” stalks at my local florist shop. I assumed that any fabric that came from bamboo would appear coarse, with noticeable bits of plant in it, sort of like raw silk. The last thing I imagined was a plush, soft fabric. Then I discovered a towel made of bamboo, and it was love at first touch. The plush fabric felt like cashmere, unlike any cotton or blended towel I had ever used. And it was also incredibly absorbent… Continue

Bamboo: From green grass to cushy comfort

I have to admit that when I first heard about bamboo fabric, my immediate thought was “ouch”. Knowing only the woody exterior of the plant, I assumed a coarse, scratchy material that was a bit too earthy for my taste. Thankfully, I was wrong. Bamboo fabric is an unusual treat: an affordable luxury. My first bamboo bathrobe was plusher and softer than any other I had ever worn. The bamboo towels were far more absorbent than their cotton predecessors. Take cashmere-like softness and combine it wi… Continue
